Plex media server not working anymore after not using it some years

Server Version#: v1.29.2 to 1.41.0
Player Version#: -

Hi
I installed Plex on my Synology DS214play maaany years ago and then didn’t use it for several years until now but it isn’t working anymore. I’m always running into “no access rights” (Du hast für diesen Server keine Zugriffsberechtigung. Du kannst ihn wahrscheinlich deinem Konto zuordnen, indem du “Open Plex…” in der MacOS Menüleiste oder dem Windows System Tray auswählst. Für weitere Tips zur Fehlerbehebung siehe [Hilfe]) when connected to my NAS via QuickConnect in my local network or “Something went wrong. An unexpected error occured” when connected to my NAS directly via local IP address after asking for my plex account login.

What changed since then:

  • Upgrade to DSM 7.1 (from DSM 6.?)
  • Different internet access (cannot directly connect via external ip anymore)

What I tried:

  • Uninstall (disconnect but keep data) v1.29.2 and (normal) install newest v1.41.0 vom Plex site
  • Grant RW access to the internal PlexMediaServer user to Plex, PlexMediaServer and media shares

Nothing seems changed and I have absolutey no idea what could possibly be the problem.
Any help would be higly appreciated - Thank you very much!

BTW:
I also used plex media server on a small Intel NUC for some time because it’s faster
On my plex mobile app I cannot find anything anywhere from my NAS server or the earlier NUC server

Upgrading from DSM 6 → DSM 7 requires a very specific sequence.

RW permisssions are insuffiient.

This is VERY important:

  1. If you still have ‘Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server’

  2. and all the normal files underneath it

  3. Uninstall AND ERASE the DSM 7 Plex server

  4. To migrate your server from 6 → 7 requires specific steps.
    — DSM 7 changed so much that I could not do it for you automatically

Complete with screenshots.

Follow each instruction as it is given. Make certain to check all the boxes as shown.

If you’ve installed the DSM 7 app and have just uninstalled (and purged it)
In the instructions , skip to “Scenario 2 - Step 3.”

It will not hang – it may take a long time – DO NOT interrupt it.

Installing the PMS 1.40.0 and above versions require another major DB change.
This will also take a long time.

PMS will report “503 - Maintenance”. This is expected.

Hit F5 every few minutes to see if it’s complete – It does not auto-refresh
