Cannot Connect to Plex with Secure Connection

Hello,

I have Windows Server 2016 Datacenter and PMS installed. I have port forwarding set correctly, and firewall rules are all open.

When Plex connection is set to secure only, it drops out. When preferred, I can connect only insecurely.

I have tried logging out, and in. Restarting the Plex Service. No joy!

Anyone else got any ideas? Thanks.

plex is unable to self certify this might help https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/

Hi @lordmage thanks for that. I had a look and everything is alright.

Odd.

well this might be a bit out a stretch but is your data center on a static or dynamic ip.

are you accessing your plex Via app.plex.tv or localhost:32400
have you ruled out any double Nat is your server on a static IP. port forwarding is also needed in the router and all hops to your server from a publicly accessibly IP.

might want to read thur Secure connection? and similar next

I am having the same issue. Not sure when it started either.

Normally, accessing https://app.plex.tv/ gave me the secured. Recently, it now drops to http://app.plex.tv/

This is message i get if I access it via local hostname

This server could not prove that it is mediaserver ; its security certificate is from *.f1c2bb84a23340b8b08557b853404930.plex.direct . This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection

I am running my server on Ubuntu Server (CLI Only)

The certificate is pinned to the … plex.direct FQDN.
If you use a custom host name for your Plex server, the certificate is of course not valid for it. Use either the IP address or the long plex.direct FQDN.
Or even better, use app.plex.tv since it will always have the latest updates.

It seems to only be a issue when I copied the Plex metadata across as I reimaged the OS.

All the data integrity is fine but wouldn’t allow secure connection. Tried signing out and in etc. And seems like nothing worked.

So. Had to delete the metadata and start Plex from scratch and straight away no issue.

Must be SSL related. Just sucks as all OnDeck is gone. Painful.

strange because today. it now connects via SSL correctly. I checked the certificate and it’s there. SOOOO STRANGE!. Didn’t CHANGE anything either.
