Cannot connect via iPhone. Is this "remote access"?

(I’m not sure where to find the above information.)

Usually, when I go out in the car & launch Plexamp on my iPhone, I can access my library & choose whatever I want. Today, while I was out, I was unable to access my library at all.

I am not sure whether or not this counts as “remote access” when I am connecting to my library using my phone over 4G because I’m using my normal log in & it’s always worked before. I’m thinking “remote access” might be something that needs to be enabled for some other reason. In any case, when I enable it, I just get a red cross & some error message.

The thing is, I recently moved my external hard drive to a new computer & I think maybe I have something switched wrong or configured wrong because this is just a new problem that I’ve not had (& have not needed to worry about) before.

So now, if I have wifi switched enabled on my phone when I’m at home, my phone connects. If I switch off wifi I now get a “whoops” message, even if I’m indoors.

There are bound to be “guides” that will be as impenetrable as they always are but can anyone give me any pointers? Do I need to enable some kind of access on my phone or what?

So I just restarted my Mac because, you know, “turn it off & on again” can solve some glitches and now everything’s working as normal.

I mean, that may have been just the restart of the Plex server, not the whole Mac. I’ll try restarting just the server next time.

But here’s the bigger issue…

When I’m out & about & suddenly I can’t access my library because I need to restart the server… Or possibly the Mac, what use is that? Why would Plex need to be restarted when nothing has changed? Are there any steps I could take to stop this happening in the future?
