I decided to reinstall macOS on my Mac mini and migrate my old server (from same Mac, just previous install) to the new installation of macOS. I followed the support article for grabbing all the necessary server information and was able to back it up and transfer it over. After installing PMS, closing it, transferring all the server data, restarting the Mac, and launching the server again I was asked to sign in to my account. After doing so I received the “Not authorized” message and followed the instructions in this support article to reclaim the server with no success.
I finally gave up on trying to reclaim the old server after a few attempts and just decided I would start over with a new one. I followed the instructions in this article to uninstall the server.
When setting up a new installation it asks me to login to my account then brings me to a page that says “Initializing Plex Media Server” but I don’t appear to be signed in. After 4-5 minutes it fails to initialize. I’ve clicked the “Sign In” button as well as closed the page and opened the server from the menu bar item but it just takes me to a page asking me to sign in again and then to the Plex Home page with no server setup prompts. I must have tried this a dozen times by now but I keep getting the same “Not authorized” message after each installation. I’ve gone into my Plex account and removed all the previous servers and authorized devices between installs and I still have this problem every single time.
I just tried installing PMS on my Windows 11 desktop (no previous install as far as I can remember) and had the exact same problem occur.
Am I missing something? I’m trying to avoid reinstalling macOS again since I just got it set up and honestly I can’t even tell if it would matter at this point.
