Cannot delete artist

Server Version#:???
Player Version#:???

I have an artist in my library for which there are no albums and no folder in my Plex music folder. The artist’s image has a red trash can over it. When I try to delete the artist, i get the message “cannot empty trash.”

Any idea how I can fix this? It is very annoying!

  1. reload the web app in your browser (F5), then immediately
  2. Edit your music library,
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab and verify that every path in there points to a folder which is:
  • existent
  • accessible to Plex Server
  • not completely empty(!)
  1. Empty trash of your music library

Thanks @OttoKerner - I tried this, and it did not work. When I go to edit my music library, there is no “add folders” tab. Because I have no Movies, TV Shows, Photos, or Home Movies, I deleted those folders from my Plex drive and emptied the trash for those libraries. But then when I tried to empty the trash for my music library, I still get told “there was a problem emptying the trash.” Note that I am able to delete other items out of my library – just this one pesky artist, where I deleted all albums for the artist but the artist continues to display with a red trash can over the artist image. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.
