Cannot get MetaData or Control PMP on Shield

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486 (Synology)
Player Version#:9.1.1xxxx

Several problems:

  1. PMS does not show the Shield as a player, but will show the AppleTV as a player
  2. PMS on Shield cannot be controlled, only through the Shield Controls
  3. No MetaData is presented (scrubbing, etc.) when using Roomie Remote
  4. PMP is not auto discovered - anyone know if PMP has a separate port on Shield other than 5555 which is used for general remote control/access on Shield?

Roomie support is non-existent, so I’m asking here.
The biggest issue, I believe, is that while PMP can play a movie from the server, and it shows as playing under “activities” on the server, the Shield/Plex are never recognized as a player in PMS.
Maybe the latter is normal, but either way - I cannot get any Metadata.

I’ve heard that using the “old player” on Plex/Shield solves many problems, but there is no ability to turn it on in Plex/settings/advanced for Shield, as there is for Roku and AppleTV.

I can manually add the PMP on Shield to Roomie, if I new the correct port and designation.
For example, if I do a UPNP scan of the Shield, it shows 5 services as being offered.
One of those services contains Plex with a data type of RS?

I don’t know if I should be trying to control the server or the PMP on Shield…

Any help appreciated…

Are you using a Synology server (which diskstation model) or is this a Nvidia Shield server ?

You tagged Synology but looks like Shield .

As for controlling PMS on either Synology or Shield – http://ip.addr.of.server:32400/web in a browser

Don’t know about / wouldn’t expect third party controllers/remotes to have any influence here.

Plex supports controlling the Plex Android TV app from other Plex clients, such as the Plex iOS app.

There is no support for controlling the Plex Android TV client from non-Plex applications.

You might be able to launch, etc the Plex app using Roomie, but it would basically be substituting for the Shield remote.

I’ve not seen a way to directly control the Plex Android TV app from a 3rd party application.

Plex Media Player is a discontinued Windows/Mac application.

The Shield runs the Plex Android TV app.

There is no “old player” in the Plex Android TV client. It went away quite some time ago and was unrelated to the Plex clients on the AppleTV and Roku (the ATV & Roku clients are completely separate from the AndroidTV client).

Please verify the Plex client installed on the Shield. The current release is 9.12.2. There is no 9.1.1 release mentioned in the announcement thread. 9.2.0 was released in May 2022.

Does the Plex app on the Shield play media correctly when using the Nvidia Shield remote?

When playing media using the Plex app, what is listed in Plex Dashboard → Now Playing? Can you attach a screenshot?
