Cannot install Plex Media Server

I can not install the media server. After down loading it and installing, when I reboot and try to launch I get a C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MFPlat.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.

Is there a 64 bit program of this program? (I only see 32bit on web page)
or must I do something else? I’m running Windows 10.
Thank you for any help

It looks like you are running a Windows “N” version (meaning without Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player).
Either install the Media Player via an additional package Media Feature Pack list for Windows N editions
or switch to a regular Windows edition.

he what I found I have:
OS Edition
Windows 10 Home
Version
2009

should I still download the program?

Are you 100% positive that it doesn’t say “N”?

Go check the Apps control panel. See if there is the Media Player disabled under “Windows Features”/“Optional Features”
If so, enable it.

AFAIK, this Windows release is not supported anymore. Enable Windows Update and let it run until there are no more updates to be found.

It could also be possible that the .dll has been replaced by some ancient 3rd-party software which was installed before. As a last ditch attempt, you could run a “repair install” of Windows.

there are no updates.
I found this

Windows Media Player (only a uninstall button?)

I also restored the system back to the way it was before running AVG Tuneup. I do see when I reboot 2 programs getting blocked (it says its maleware?) Do you think thats what Plex needs to run and it’s a false msg?

Without knowing what its blocking I cant tell you. But if you have questions feed the file thru VirusTotal and see what that says about the file.

I can only recommend you stay away from stuff like this. Usually it does more harm than good.

At this point, all I can recommend you is to start over from a clean install. Prepare an up-to-date installation medium using this web page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

OttoKerner,
Thank you, Your recommendation worked. (It took a few hours but was worth it and I lost NOTHING.) Thank you again
