Hi, I haven’t been able to run PLEX since the Windows update. Have tried downloading every Media Feature Pack and nothing has worked, cannot find old .DLL files to re insert into PLEX folder so am kind of at a stand still at least until PLEX makes a patch. ANY help is appreciated.

Thanks for the help but this also did not work, have tried downloading, restarting and reinstalling PLEX to no avail.
I’m in the same boat none of the suggestions work for me either. Are all MFPlat.dll files the same or unique to each Windows installation? Can someone share their copy of the file that they got to make Plex work or is there a legality issue with sharing a Windows dll file?
Me as well.
Tried system restore, didnt work. Tried uninstalling the updates and disabling windows update for 35 days since you cannot turn it off anymore. Rebooted tried to restart PLEX, NADA…
Any help on this?
Found it and it worked
If you upgraded Windows and you run into this problem, just look for the windows.old directory, go to syswow64, copy the mfplat.dll file from there and paste it into the c:\windows\syswow64 directory.

this also didn’t work for me. Where exactly did you find the .dll file?
In the same boat. Had already cleared the Windows Old folder - d’oh - as I like to keep my media server very neat. Do not want to reinstall.

No, not unique. There are however, x86 and x64 versions of it.
Try to install the x86 version even if your Windows is x64.

Thanks mate! Last update this night suddenly screwed this up…but your fix fixed it. Hooray!
Ive tried copying from the windows.old folder, but it’s still not working, getting a failure message that it’s “either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error”. Have also tried uninstalling Plex and reinstalling, hoping this would replace all the files it needed!
Is there any support from Plex themselves on this issue?
Seeing the same issue after following the steps outlined here. My home media system is now non-functional after the windows update.
If you’re willing to trust another person’s file (that person is me, if it matters) I placed my working mfplat.dll file on my web server:
https://www.timekills.org/public/mfplat.zip
(Update 18 SEP 2019) This DLL is from Windows Version 1703 (OS Build 15063.674) 64 bit. It does work on new Windows versions up to at least 1903.
When I moved this file from my Windows.old into the new c:\windows\syswow64 directory PMS did start working again.
You have to install Media Feature Pack for your version of Windows.
If you are using Windows 10 (October 2017 - 1709), then find that version and install it. Restart computer and PLEX should work.
For 1709: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4039813/media-feature-pack-for-windows-10-n-october-2017 and it worked for me.
Media Features Packs linked in previous answers was for 1603 (and earlier I think).
I updated Windows 10 and plex stopped working and produced the error message MFPlat.DLL missing.
I copied the file as suggested from my Windows.old folder into C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and it worked again, thank you very much to those who suggested it!
On another topic, just in case it helps anyone, I also used the link above provided by franiis to update the Windows Media Feature Pack, my iPhone 6 isn’t recognised every time the WMP is updated, this fixed it yet again and allows me to sync photos.

For 1709: Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 N (October 2017) - Microsoft Support and it worked for me.Media Features Packs linked in previous answers was for 1603 (and earlier I think).
This worked for me thanks. A little disappointing that after paying for a plex pass, not an insubstantial chunk of money, support basically wash their hands of you and point you to the forums. Just for the record Plex, that isn’t ACTUALLY support for a paid up customer! Thanks again to @franiis for the answer that luckily worked for me after updating windows.

Agree in principle. The installer should check this, and point the user towards the download page if it’s missing.
