One of my three invited friends does not display in the user-friends list. When I attempt to invite the friend, I get an error “You are already sharing this server with user_name. Please edit your existing share.”. As that user name is not listed as a user, I can’t edit or remove it to try again. How do I edit the non displaying user or delete it to start over?
Have you looked for the user’s name both under ‘MyHome’ and under ‘Friends’ ?
Another thing to try and diagnose the issue is to
- activate debug logging
- restart the Plex server
- wait 10 minutes
- then stop Plex and inspect the
Plex Media Server.log
file. Search for the user’s name in there. If the user name doesn’t appear in there or it appears garbled, the developers like to hear about it.
Yes, I have looked. My Home only lists me and Friends only lists the other two friends which can access my shared libraries without any problem.
When I checked to add the debug option, I found it had already been enabled (regular not verbose logging). The media server log directory has 26 log files including six Plex Media Server logs. The last one is Plex Media Server.log.5 and is 5.2 MB in size. Using Wordpad to open and search for the problem friends username (C_Bush) finds 26 occurrences with the last entry of [Feb 03, 2016 02:03:27:136 [10396] DEBUG - MyPlex: Adding xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx as token for 5 sections for C_Bush]. The first entry at the top of the log file is [Feb 02, 2016 12:28:19:565 [12756] DEBUG - MyPlex: Adding xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx as token for 5 sections for C_Bush].
Since debug was enabled, I did not shut down the server. Do you need the log? Since it is 5.2 MB in size, would shutting down the server start a new one to send you? BTW - Do I restart the server by exiting and restarting it or is there some other way?
I am new to this forum. If you need the log, how do I send it as I don’t see an attachment option?
Process to obtain fresh logs (restart is either by closing program or rebooting PC):

As requested, I shut down the server and then restarted it. My third user friend is C_Bush. Friend C_Bush is not displayed under Users My Home or Friends. I attempted to add the C_Bush friend again using the Invite Friend option and C_Bush email address. I get an error “You are already sharing this server with user_name. Please edit your existing share.”. Since the C_Bush friend is not listed in my users, I cannot edit or delete the friend.
I am attaching all 4 of the new Plex logs in the zip file ‘MattDerry Plex Server Logs 160203-1108.zip’. I hope you can help re-establish library sharing with user friend C_Bush.
- please shut down PMS
- make sure it is really shut down by invoking the Process explorer (CTRL+Shift+Esc)
and search for all processes with either Plex or Python in their name and terminate them - go to the folder
C:\Users\Matt\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\
and delete the subfolderServices.bundle
from there - restart PMS, wait 2 minutes and try again
I did as you requested. I closed the browser window with the Plex Server. I used the hidden Plex tray icon to close Plex by right clicking the icon and selecting exit. I opened the Windows Task Manager and verified that there were no Processes or Services running with either Plex or Python in the name. I deleted the Services.bundle from the Plug-ins directory. After 5 minutes, I restarted the Plex server. I waited another 5 minutes and then used the Plex tray icon to open Plex in the browser.
I went to the Settings Users tab in the in the browser Plex window. My home only contained my user name. The Friends stil only contained my other two user friends, ericderry and Suffix30. I attempted to add the C_Bush friend using the Invite Friend option. When I clicked Next to send the invite, I get the same error error “You are already sharing this server with user_name. Please edit your existing share.”.
BTW - The Services.bundle folder has NOT been recreated in the Plug-ins directory.
What else can I do?
You have 2 servers, right?
Does the user appear when you change to the second server?
Is the second server a “clone” of the first one?
strike the above.
The user in question was somehow listed as a sharee of yours but not as a ‘Friend’.
After you restart your server again, everything should be OK now.
A very great thanks to you. Everything now appears to be working.
At first, your two responses did not make any sense to me. Then I realized that I have two independent Plex servers attached to my single Plex account. One is on my ARCXL PC which I was working with. The other is on my M17x PC. Apparently the error message I was getting when trying to add the C_Bush friend to my ARCXL was caused by the existence of the C-Bush friend on my M17x server. I shut down both servers and then restarted my ARCXL server and the C-Bush friend was back. Then I restarted my M17x Plex server and now both servers on both computers correctly show all three friends…
I did a TeamViewer remote connection to my C-Bush friend and verified that my ARCXL libraries are accessible and can play in the PC browser.
Thank you very much for your help.
BTW - The Services.bundle folder has NOT been recreated in the Plug-ins directory. Is it required?
I have two servers because the M17x libraries cannot always be accessed by the ARCXL server. Although I included the M17x library folders in an ARCXL library, they cannot be accessed until I manually connect to the M17x drive via a network connection. You should pass along that a future enhancement would be to include a stored user name and password when a media path is on a local network.
Thank you again

No, it was not that. I asked our experts to check the status of C_Bush and it turned out he was not “fully listed” as your friend. This has been rectified now.

It was a remnant from an earlier version of PMS. It didn’t do any good there.
