Cannot link tv to plex

Hi

I have a Samsung UA40ES7500 and older Samsung 32" smart tv. Both have the same issue all of a sudden with plex app. I cannot link them to plex.

I cannot get code on either screen to enter into link screen on the pc.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix it.

Thanks

Deon

Please see Plex support is ending 2020-09-30 on older smart TV devices. Looks like your TV is affected.

I had someone check their old Samsung TV and they weren’t affected. Your “UA40ES7500” appears to be a 2012 model. Some 2012 and earlier Samsung TV do not support TLS 1.0 and would be affected by the recent change. Are you able to tell what version of the Plex app you are running? If it’s 1.x, then it is affected and won’t work anymore. Plex tried removing support for TLS before and changed their mind. There may be a workaround that came up back then. Hi

Thank you very much for the information. Will have to go the android mygiga or similar route.

I have a 2012 model which had exactly the same issue at the beginning of this month, and it is very easy to fix as already reported in some other posts:

In plex on the desktop, in Settings > Network, make sure ‘Secure connections’ is set to ‘preferred’ and not ‘required’ and enter the IP addresses of your TVs in ‘List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth’.

In Plex on the TV, you want to make sure that in Preferences > System, ‘Use secure connections’ is off.
You also need to enter your PMS IP address (your desktop PC or whatever you’re using) in Plex Media Servers (see the manual if you’re not sure how to do that).

Then of course you should not select ‘sign in to your plex account’ since you will not be connected to that account anymore, but instead just connected locally to your server (so that is also the potential - makes no difference for the way I use Plex - downside).
