ive been using plex fine for years now but today on my samsung smart tv (UE55D6530WK) it stayed on the ‘connecting’ pop up for ages and kept doing so even though i turned the tv off and tried again, and so i deleted the app to reinstall it.
however now it keeps saying login failed and wont let put in my login information despite nothing changing to the TV and the server.
I’m having the exact issue!
The app was hanging forever. So, I deleted and redownloaded it. Now, I can enter the app, but it won’t connect to my server.
I found an old forum from 2015 with a supposed fix, but all the links are broken. I am using a UN55D7000LF Samsung Smart TV (2011 model).
The older Samsung TVs use a user developed Plex client. Unfortunately, the developer is not able to continue supporting it. The app has not been updated in quite some time.
On October 1, Plex dropped support for the TLS 1.0 protocol. As a result, many older Plex clients can no longer be used, as they cannot login to your Plex account. The Samsung client was not on the list (as it is not an official Plex supported client), but it may be affected as well.
You might be able to work around the situation, albeit with limitations. See this thread for details.
If the workarounds are ineffective, you’ll have to acquire a streaming box/stick such as an Amazon FireTV Stick, Apple TV, Nvidia Shield, Roku, etc.
I was able to manually add the Plex server through the TV app without logging into Plex.
From the Plex Server GUI I accessed the Network configuration to add the IP address of both the TV and of the Plex server itself where you authorize devices to access the Plex server without requiring authentication. On the TV app, I was then able to manually add the Server’s IP address. I have access to my movies again!
