I’ve been having issues with adding and modifying media in my library. I added two new movies. It seems to have detected them ok. However, the artwork is on a random frame of the movie. I tried changing the poster and background picture. When I try to save, I get the error: Your changes could not be saved.
I also tried adding in a folder to my library for movies that I separated out from my main movie category. Only one movie shows up and there are several movies in that folder. I have tried rescanning Library files and nothing changes.
I also tried changing some settings in server settings. Those will not save either. So, I’m not sure what is going on.
I backed up files in ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server and in ~/Library/Preferences. I removed Plex and downloaded the new version and restored those files. It is still doing the same thing.
I checked and I still have 2TB of space on the drive. So, it’s not a space issue.
That worked. However, the database backup files were majorly off in date.
The com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db backup file was dated for 12-19 and the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db database file was dated for 12-10.
I had TimeMachine connected. So, I actually just wiped out all of the files in the database directory (backed them up) and replaced them with the ones from 12-10 on TimeMachine.
After starting Plex, I will able to edit Metadata and add the folder that wouldn’t add before and the movies were scanned in.
The issue you described above is that the Agent for the library located the video file however it did not successfully match the video to a known metadata item that matches a specific piece of the published content.
One option you can try is selecting manual match and seeing what options it provides. If you had your file naming setup correctly this ideally would not have been an issue however.
This issue is usually because of one of the following things
a) the file or folder naming are not correct based on the Plex file naming standards.
b) the content is in the wrong folder, ie you have a TV show in a Movie library or vice versa.
you can’t mix media types with different agents on the same folder… the Plex agents are not designed for this and the rules vary based on each agent… for 90% of users is too complicated to address why but the answer is don’t mix video types in the same libraries folders.
if your media is not a published item, you could try making your own metadata using the edit setting on the media and making sure you lock those edits.
Of course, since the Plex database gets corrupted more often than any commercial tool should I would recommend backing this up to disk regularly in the settings.
