Cannot play 'new' files on Pixel 7

I am having an issue where newly added files to my plex server are unable to be played on my Pixel 7. I receive the error message ’ An error occurred while trying to play this video, please check your connection and try again’.

The strange part is, it’s only ‘new’ files. Everything else I can play without issue. I can also play these ‘new’ files on my local streaming devices, as well as the web interface. I am accessing the server via local LAN on all devices.

I just tried several files, new & old via WiFi and 5G on my Pixel 7 Pro w/ no issues. Try rescanning your library and see if that helps.

Tried rescanning the library via the phone, and same result.

How were these new files created?

Make sure that your Plex server has these scheduled tasks enabled:

  • “Upgrade media analysis during maintenance”
  • “Perform extensive media analysis during maintenance”

Then make sure that your Plex server is actually running during the configured time period for the Scheduled Tasks. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201553286-scheduled-tasks/
It also requires access to the media files during this period, so make sure to not switch off any network equipment or external hard drives/NASs etc. during the night.

They were downloaded. There mkv’s.

OK did that, but how do I tell that the task actually ran?

You inspect the Plex media info XML of that movie. If there is a XML property deepAnalysisVersion="6" in there, chances are good that the analysis has been performed.

OK well I checked one of the problematic files and “deepAnalysisVersion=‘6’” does display. Still no lock playing the file on my Pixel through.
