Cannot play TiDAL content on Plexamp Raspberry Pi - SOLVED

Am I doing something wrong?
my setup:

  • PlexPass and a TiDAL subscription through Plex.
  • Plexamp installed on my desktop
  • Plexamp installed on my Android device
  • Plexamp (1.1) running headless on a Raspberry Pi

I select a TiDAL album using Plex for web and choose add to my library

I confirm that it is in my music library, and switch to a different controller (either Plexamp on my PC or Plexamp Android)

Now I should be able to play it by selecting the PlexAmp headless player, right?
But it won’t play - it just sits and spins.

If I select something from my local library, there is no problem controlling and switching between any of these players.

At first I assumed this must not be supported, but after combing through the forum I found the following thread with a post in Jan '19 that said “now available”.
Plexamp on Headless Pi & Tidal - Testing / Plex Labs - Plex Forum

Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

I am having the exact same issue. All of my local library files play flawlessly on my pi and other players. Once I attempt to cast a tidal stream to the pi or any other player I get errors.

Hopefully an easy fix that we’re just not seeing. I’ve been trying to figure it out for a couple of days now.

The raspi version of plexamp is still v2.
It cannot handle Tidal yet.

Thanks for the response. I can stop trying to rack my brain to get it to work now.

Is it a case that PMS and other plex clients are unable to cast tidal also? I have plex clients on things like the nvidia shield and laptops via the web browser. I can play my tidal streams on these devices once I select them within those devices but if I choose to use my phone as the controller I can’t select the nvidia shield or other players to play tidal streams from my phone.

I hope this form of integration is on the cards for the future development of Plex and Plexamp. The usability and interface are pretty much everything i’m looking for.

Thank you for the reply @OttoKerner!

In the original post, I included a link to a different post which had an update from Elan which said:

Plexamp for Raspberry Pi v2.0 beta 2 We’re pleased to announce the next release of Plexamp for Raspberry Pi, with massive internal changes and improvements. The audio engine inside is the exact same upgraded piece of awesome which powers our iOS and Android apps. Overall, the biggest changes: Support for TIDAL and podcasts.

Isn’t that conflicting info with what you wrote above or did I misunderstand something?
Do you have any insight as to when it will be supported?

@Aidan364 , @OttoKerner - I got it working.

Try this and see if it works for you.

  1. Play something from your own local library.
  2. Find the album or song from Tidal that you want to play.
  3. open the menu options and select play next instead of play (while the other song is playing)

It should transition into the Tidal album with no trouble, or you can even click the next song control on your Plexamp controller.

I was able to connect my tidal account to Plex and it works on my desktop. However, Plex on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro is not connected to my Tidal account.

Please advise.
