Cannot transcode content through Android TV app, directplay works fine

I have an odd issue with watching transcoded content through my Sony Android TV. when i try to watch a show it direct plays fine (most files at least), if i use that same video and tell it to transcode it does not work and i don’t see anything in the PMS log… another oddity is that if i cast to the TV from my phone (Android TV acting as a chromecast) it direct plays and transcodes the content successfully.

why would the Plex Android TV app not play transcoded content but the casting functionality would fine?

attached are the TV logs. i enabled network loging and have the plex app set to transcode everything to 480p, just to triage this issue. 12/29 around 11:18 is when i did all this.

i have had this issue for a little while now across server versions

Will, I got no assistance and did some digging around… Looks like it is a problem with the new (experimental) player on Android. As soon as I reverted (in settings) I can play content fine again.

now we just need to get Plex to fix the problem…

i think you need to check the PMS logs at the same time and see if it has any further info in addition to the android tv logs when the transcoding fails
