Cannot play most movies/Series on Android TV unless I cast.?

I can play the same files on desktop and phone laptop etc. but many movies will not play on my android TV anymore. The % that wont play is getting more and more.

I can cast playback of the same files to the android TV though.

Is this a setting I have thats wrong? or maybee a codec that is getting popular that my android TV doesnt suport it?

Questions; 1,are you using stable or beta version of the software and apps?? 2. Check the dashboard when you try to play to see of you are transcoding to direct streaming. Capture debug logs for both your server and android device and post them.

Whats “transcoding to direct streaming” mean?

I think they wanted more info, such as if you were transcoding OR direct streaming. There is no known bug that can cause this case you mentioned, so we need to drill down into the technicalities to figure out what broke, and how to fix it. Please provide server logs.

Start playback on your TV or at least try to. Log into your web interface from a PC and click on the ACTIVITY icon.

Go to the DASHBOARD. There you can see whether your server is transcoding or direct streaming.

I was streaming this to my tablet at work so my server was transcoding both the video and audio. If I was at home it would show direct stream.

Obviously for the video that wont play, nothing will show up[ on the dashboard. This is all on a local network

OK… You are Direct Streaming. Try to play one of the troublesome files but set the Plex player app to transcode to the highest resolution and monitor it.

Looking to do this. Can I do this in settings, or do i have to use playback settings of an individual video?

You can change the playback setting in the player app…

This is probably my fault for not being educated enough on how plex works…
… but it pisses me off so much that something thats been fine for years just stops working and the settings are just too complex to understand what they do and so many similar settings in many places.

A forum does not a propper user guide or manual make… even with nice helpfull people like yourself. Thanks BTW.

Nothing much plays now and casting wont work much of the time. I’m about to give up.
I wish I’d paid a lot of money to plex so someone was motivated by profit to help fix my issues
