Can't access channel options since last update on the Apple TV App

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: Apple TV App V2.16
Tuner Make/Model: Hauppauge WinTV-QuadHD
Guide/Lineup name: How do I find out?
Using XMLTV?: No clue?
Channel number/Name: All

Since the last update, with the PIP channel showing in the EPG, on the first channel tune, I can access the channel top menu options, from the remote swipe down on the Apple TV remote, and swipe through top options such as (Info, Also Airing, Playback Settings, Technical Details), as well as the bottom two buttons, Record and the new Guide one.

However, if I change a channel and go back to that option menu, all I can access are the two bottom buttons (Record and Guide) and the top four options are grayed out and inaccessible, no matter what I do, no matter how many time I change channels, until I kill the app and reopen it, which only allow me to access this option menu once, until the next channel change.

This is annoying on channels where the incorrect default Audio Stream is selected where more than one English audio stream is available and one has the annoying descriptive audio and it’s the one Plex has decided to select…

Another thing I’ve noticed since this last update, is using my Android tablet, it now keeps defaulting to the original video quality and I get a black screen on some channels. I have to change it to automatic and it works, but once I change the channel, it defaults back to original and I have to change it again to automatic to get the picture back. Another annoyance, but luckily I don’t use it often enough to care about it too much.

Lastly, some channels running on my HDHomeRun Connect Duo, won’t display signal strength at time in the option menu of the Apple TV App, again since this last update. But this seems to fix by itself as I change channels and leave it time to update, but that’s really minor as I can access this info from another app… But in case it’s all related…

But the Apple TV app channel option menu issue is a real annoyance and the wife is about to bite… LOL!

Please help and fix it back!! LOL!

Thanks,
Dave

Hi!

The Apple TV issue has been identified and fixed in 2.17, which is scheduled to be released next week. It’s currently in public beta, so if you want to give it a go feel free to sign up for TestFlight access here.

Regarding the quality selection in the Android player, I’ll be sure to forward that information along to my colleague looking at Live TV issues on Android so he can take a look.

Interesting, I haven’t seen this behaviour yet, but will take a look.
Just to be clear, is the rest of the information in the Info panel correct, just the signal strength is missing and/or delayed?

Thanks,
Hugo

Hello Hugo, thank you very much for the prompt reply, I’ll sure give your beta version a try and help you out.

As for the missing signal strength info, for the channels received with my HDHR, I just ran a test and the info is definitely delayed. It takes a good 5 minutes I’d say for it to be showing and if I change channel and come back to a channel from one on my HDHR, the info will take another good 5 minutes to come back on.

I thought at first I had to go to a channel broadcasted from my Hauppauge card, where the signal meter info is working and come back on for it to work, but that’s not the case, I have to stay on the channel from the HDHR long enough for the info to be displayed. All that time, I can access the info from the HDHR meter app on Android.

The signal strength has been pretty crappy however over the last couple days because of the weather (60% or so for that channel), so I don’t know if this plays a role with Plex being slow in retrieving the signal strength info from the HDHR, but this was never the case prior to the last update, so I would not think so.

Let me know if I can be of any other help.

Thanks,
Dave

Ok, I have installed TestFlight on my AppleTV and loaded the beta. Pretty stable so far changing channels, surfing through the guide and no miss so far, the option menu is loading correctly so far and I have access to all four top options.

Checked for the signal strength for my HDHR channels and it’s not showing up, just in case…

Will keep monitoring it and using the beta version until the stable release.

Let me know if you have something more specific you need me to test or a set of action.

Thanks again.
Dave

Hi @Mobidic_HTPC,

I think I’ve faced the same issue as you described with 2.16.
I also faced another issue when this occurred. I’m wondering whether you had it also with 2.16 and if it’s fixed with 2.17.
Please have a look at my post: LiveTV: Cannot switch tabs when opening menu or RW/FF

Thank you in advance
