Hi, I’m new to Plex and to My Cloud Home NAS. I followed the instructions to set up Plex Media Server on the My Cloud Home (I have a My Cloud Home and an EX2. Plex is on the Home). The problem is when i try to play these from Plex on my Macbook or using the Plex app on Android or iPad, I cannot see the video files or even any sub folders i created under Plex on the My Cloud Home! Im attaching screenshots showing files visible on the MyCloud in the Plex folder and them not being visible on Plex.
Its probably something really simple that im missing! Im on a free Flex account by the way.
Thanks for your help!
David
…just to add that my router has split 2.4 and 5 ghz bands, just ion case this is relevant!..
…just adding what i see in the Macbook’s finder window, and the WD discovery version information, if relevant…
Hi is anyone able to help me with this? Thanks!
From the looks of it you’re trying to add video files to a music-type library. Plex is quite stubborn that each library type will only look for the respective media.
It’s technically possible to show music videos as “local extras” linked to an existing artist that has its regular music albums/tracks. However that’ll only if you actually have music files for that artist.
If your music videos have no albums/artists to go along your best shot will be to move those in a separate movie / other video type library. Keep in mind the WD MyCloud Home is quite limited when it comes to adding libraries beyond the predefined ones.
Thanks Tom, I think I did try it in both a music and a video type folder but I’ll retry. I wanted to stream the music videos as a playlist.
Regards
David
You can also make this work with music videos which are stored as local extras. However you’ll need to manually assign each of them to a playlist.
- Open an artist with music videos
- Select all music videos (“multi-select”)
- Add the selection to a playlist using the multi-select action bar
This will work for music videos from all kinds of sources (music extras, music videos included as extras with a movie, music videos stored in a movie / other video library).
