Can't access my Plex Media Server - "Plex is currently Unavailable"

Server Version#: macOS Catalina 10.15.3
Player Version#: Latest Version
Using Norton 360

Hi there - hopefully some of you fine folk can help. I’ve just upgraded away from a PC to a new iMac. running Catalina. I went to setup my Plex server this afternoon thinking it would be relatively straightforward - it hasn’t been!

I installed the media player free from Plex website and upon setup directed it to the folders with my media, so far so good. But when it took me to the Plex server in safari I keep getting the “plex server is unavailable” tag on the main screen. In addition, there’s also the yellow exclamation boxes against the libraries on the left pane. Now, I’ve gone through all the troubleshooting pages but nothing seems to get me in - initially I thought it was a firewall problem as I have Norton 360 installed, but I’ve allowed Plex access through the firewall. I’ve also tried to run it with the firewall off and I still have the same issue. I don’t have a VPN running nor do I have any other internet connectivity problems. I’ve run through safari’s and macOS Privacy settings and they all allow Plex through. I also have no issue logging into the Plex app itself, but with the Plex.tv web based site - it won’t allow me to access my media.

Incidentally, I only need Plex for the purposes of streaming through my home network - don’t need remote access. Anyway, hopefully someone out there will have an idea, completely baffled thus far!!

Did you have any resolution to this ?

2 days ago mine stopped working on my LG TV it can find the media server but it says my media server is unavailable . I can stream to iPhone & iPad over local network and remotely .

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling , checking Authorised Devices but still get the same message !

Ever since upgrading to Catalina (10.15.6), all Plex client apps (roku, iPad) have been unable to connect to my PMS server. I am NOT talking about remote access, I’m talking about internal access at home. IF I completely disable the FIREWALL on the Catalina PMS server, it all immediately begins to connect and work fine. If I turn the firewall back on, wham, nothing can connect. I’ve gone into Firewall Options on the Catalina Mac hosting PMS and made sure that Plex Media Server.app and Plex DLNA Server are both set to “Allow incoming connections” but TO NO AVAIL. Again, this is internal not remote and it does work if I completely disable the firewall on the PMS server, which of course, it not an option. This appears to be a completely Catalina-caused issue. Has anyone resolved this issue who had Plex running BEFORE a Catalina upgrade?

UPDATE:

After selecting “Allow incoming connections” for Plex Media Server.app and Plex DLNA Server, I subsequently rebooted the computer. Once it had rebooted, PMS is now working locally within my intranet at home, with the firewall enabled. So this issue is resolved for me (internal access only).
