Hi, I just discovered Plex and was very excited to use it but that has turned very quickly into massive disappointment.
I have a macbook and and imac on the same wifi network.
Everything worked perfectly yesterday, including being able to access my media from elsewhere.
Today when I was trying to access remotely through the web neither computer was available as it was yesterday. When I got home the imac seemed to be fine and all of my media was available. However on my macbook I cannot access any of my media from the macbook itself, the imac or any other devices. I’ve restarted, logged out and back in, everything I can try to make it work like it was working just fine yesterday.
Now on all devices including the macbook itself I cannot access any of the media on the macbook. Just says “not available”. Try again does nothing.
Can anyone help me? I’m not very computer savvy but it everything worked perfectly yesterday. Nothing changed but now I’m dead in the water and really extremely upset.
Thanks if you can help. I was ready to start telling everyone I know how great this is but I’m sure glad I kept my mouth shut.
Well, first and foremost, make sure that the Plex Media Server is up and running on your iMac by going to https://app.plext.tv/desktop in a web browser on your iMac.
Hi and thanks for the replies. Sorry I was a little frustrated.
The media servers on both computers were indeed up and running, just showing as unavailable in all locations including the computers themselves. I’m not sure what i did (like I said I’m pretty un-savvy) but I was able to locate the .app and stop the process (rebooting didn’t do this apparently) and rather than launch the media servers from Chrome I launched the .app from the downloads folder, which then launched the media server using the browser. Not sure why that’s different but it is working on both computers and remotely at this time.
I was unable on either computer to move the Plex app to the applications folder from the downloads folder, but found that pinning the app to the dock and launching that way made both computers’ servers available.
Everything is working like I hoped and I’m happy again. Fingers crossed that this solved the problem!
