I’ve had my plex home setup since the dawn of time. One of my home members told me they can’t use the Android app because it wants them to purchase the app.
Being a PlexPass subscriber since the dawn of time I was a bit confused by this. When I look at the Settings>Plex Home screen I see 3 users, myself, the one in question (Marked as a managed account), and one other pending. As far as I can tell I have my home setup and a user added to it, but I’m not understanding why they aren’t recognizing my subscription.
it looks liike that person has two accounts.
-
the managed account you see there that has an email for a username ( not managed accounts don’t actually have emails) this managed account was created a couple years ago
-
Another regular account ( not managed which they have had for a longer time) who should be listed in the “Manage Library Access” settings. They appear to have their own server on their account, along with the one you gave them access to.
I suspect they are signed into the second one
I’m not certain I follow.
The screenshot I shared has 3 accounts showing, for 3 separate users. Myself, the user having problems (Middle, managed account), and a third that hasn’t accepted the invite yet.
The account having problems is logged in with the account on that screen, I can confirm this based upon usage logs. This user only has a single account on my server. They don’t have any other servers to which they’re associated nor any other Plex accounts.
The managed account, the second on that screenshot, has an email for a user name correct?
That exact email is used on an actual regular account, and has a username ending in 859 which you should able to see in the Manage Library Access list. That regular account has or had their own server at some point even if they don’t use it anymore, that regular account does not have a Plex Pass. That regular account when I looked at it signed in about 2 hours prior to me replying yesterday.
I would need the logs from the device they are logged into otherwise
Ok I see what you’re talking about with the 859 account. For whatever reason the second and third account in that list have been sharing an account. The third account listed in there is for that third user to use their own account.
To resolve the issue where user #2 isn’t able to share my plex pass subscription do I just need to remove that 859 account? Or do I remove the two home accounts, the 859 account, and start them all fresh?
If they are an adult I would invite the 859 account into your Plex home. and have them use the 859 account. That way they have their own username/password and don’t need you to sign into a device first.
You can do that by clicking on the 859 account in the Manage Library Access list and clicking on the Home icon on the top right. They would need to then accept the Home Invite.
Ok cool, I appreciate the guidance. Can I change the account names? The 859 is usable, but I’ve never known where the numbers came from.
They need to do that when signed into their own account.
They can also add a “full/friendly” name which does not need to be unique
