Can't believe how poor the matching is!

I just reset the whole Plex database. I’m almost crying at how poor Plex is matching the movies I have. How in the God’s name can I change the stupid “Plex Movie” agent in the search? This is TOTALLY useless!

For example, I’m trying to match my copy of “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet Nest”. I entered the title but the search, probably provided by this stupid “Plex Movie” agent, doesn’t return any title that matches the movie I’m looking for. Seriously, having movies to play on any device is one thing, but if you can’t match the movie with its real title, that’s totally useless.

I know some people will probably suggest some additional steps to have the stupid thing to pick the right movie but, IMHO, you shouldn’t have to go through that.

I’ve been thinking about getting the lifetime pass but each time I see and struggle with such basic things, I’m thinking that I shouldn’t. This thing, after many years, leaves so many things to be desired.

Another example, I have a copy of “The Godfather: Parth III”. Well, I tried to enter the title in the search options and, of course, Plex is coming up with all kind of TOTALLY UNRELATED titles, not even listing “The Godfather: Part III”. Seriously, this is a big problem. Every now and then, when adding a new movie, or, now, after resetting the whole database, Plex is extremely POOR at matching the titles with the real movies they represent.

Ill be your naming is bad, and when manually matching you are leaving the year set to what ever plex first guessed.

I have a large database of movies and they match just fine. Please dont blame Plex for your poor naming. Ill give you the same template answer I give anyone with poor naming.

If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}} as the new name format.

interesting. I put the titles of both of those in and removed the year field data and they both matched perfectly.
Try
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (2009)
The Godfather Part III (1990)

both worked perfectly

I just found out that if you put the year, then it’s more likely to find it. I just wish I could select something else besides this “Plex Movie” agent…

For me, The Godfather Part III matched immediately, even if I removed the year in the search field

Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files

If you follow Plex naming and organization guidelines your media will match the vast majority of the time. If desired, you can include the IMDB or TMDB ID in the folder & file name. Doing so tells Plex the exact match.

For example:
/movies/The Godfather Part III (1990)/The Godfather Part III (1990).mkv
/movies/The Godfather Part III (1990) {imdb-tt0099674}/The Godfather Part III (1990) {imdb-tt0099674}.mkv

When performing a fix match for movies, if the initial search does not return expected item, you can use the IMDB ID in place of the title.
