Can't bring up Plex in browser, other devices working

I had an Ubuntu upgrade go sideways on me. I got it fixed and updated, but now Plex is acting wonky. I can’t bring it up in browsers on my local network. On the server itself, I can bring the app up, but it just spins looking for a server. Trying it on other computers on my network, the web app (local IP) won’t connect.

HOWEVER, my Rokus and Fire Stick both connect without any problem at all. Any suggestions?

good morning. Well if the sticks/boxes are connecting you can prob rule out hardware/firmware config. Some further thoughts…
~ How exactly did u change/reinstall/dink ubuntu? Is it server ubuntu or docker/vm/snapfake ubuntu?
~ Verify full player functionality on the clients, play some plex media no problemos.
~ If so successful take a look at where ur DNS is coming from to that PMS server.

good luck, and lemme know.

thx wbm

This sounds like DNS issue
or/and a DNS rebinding protection in your router.

  • Standard distro upgrade, but there was an issue that caused it to hiccup during the reboot. Functionality of the OS was restored, but I haven’t been able to get Plex or Teamspeak to work since
  • Full player functionality on the three Rokus that I tested.
*Not sure how to “take a look at where ur DNS is coming from to that PMS server.” I can’t access the web interface or connect to the server in the app at all on a desktop.

I think this is the same thing that was suggested above, and if so, this is exactly where I’m unsure - I don’t know how to access any of those settings without the browser/app interface.

Where should I go from here?

Most of the relevant settings live in the setup menu of your router.

The Plex setting for ‘secure connections’ can be set to ‘disabled’, without having access to the web app, like this:

  1. shut down Plex server
  2. find the advanced plex server settings
  3. change the value of the key secureConnections to 2
  4. start Plex server

sorry for not being clear - I was referring to step two above. I had no idea how to access those settings without the desktop app (Ubuntu - Plex Media Manager) on in the browser. With access to either of those, yes, I would easily be able to fix those settings, but I couldn’t.

That being said…the solution was something pretty stupid. My local IP on that machine had changed. Once I fixed that and double-check port-forwarding, everything was back up.

The linked article explains it how to access them without the web app.

That’s why I said had, past tense. :slightly_smiling_face:
