Can't Cast from Windows Player

Hello All,

I am trying to cast from a laptop running Windows with the Plex player installed to a Chromecast device. Unfortunately, the Cast icon remains “greyed out” and does not let me try and select a device to cast to.

I am however able to cast successfully from my Android phone’s Plex App so I am assuming that there is something wrong somewhere. I also tried to install the Windows Store Version but that didn’t help either.

I understand that originally the only supported method of casting to a Chromecast device was via Chrome BUT I cant imagine Plex has put this icon there if it wasn’t possible to cast from the app itself.

To start the process, below are some details of my enviroment:
Plex Media Server for Linux - Version 1.14.1.5488
Plex Media Player for Windows - 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476
Windows 10 Pro Version 1803 Build 17134.472
Remote via SSL connection
Same wifi network

Any help from the community or Plex would is going to be appreciated.

Thanks

Try to set up and run the Plex Media Server on this laptop.
It doesn’t need to actually have any media in it. It just needs to be present and running in the local network.

If you are in a hotel or otherwise public WiFi network, this might still not work due to ‘client isolation’ which is often enabled in this type of network.
