Yesterday I installed a new Plex server on a new PC running Windows 11 Pro. I named it like my former server, MediaNet, which is no longer running. When I try to access it on the Roku client (actually two, on different TVs) I get the message “MediaNet is currently unavailable”. I uninstalled and re-installed the Roku client, to no avail. It shouldn’t be a network issue since Jellyfin works fine on the same setup. Any help would be much appreciated.
Your newly installed server is separate from your old server. Naming it identically to the old server won’t change that. Moving the server’s “identity” (which is not defined by its “friendly name”) from old to new machine requires additional effort. But I won’t detail that just yet. Here’s how to solve your current issue:
- Ensure that the new server has been “claimed” into the exact same plex.tv user account like the old server was.
- on your Plex client devices, un-favorite/un-pin all the libraries of the old server from the home page/left side bar. Then put the libraries of the new server in their place. https://support.plex.tv/articles/manage-favorite-libraries/
Thanks for your reply. I decided to un-install the server and start from scratch. I can’t move the server’s identity from the old PC because its hard drive failed and had to be replaced, so there’s nothing to recover. Fortunately all my library files are stored on external HDDs.
Is there a chance to delete the “MediaNet” server(s) from Plex’s database? I really want to start fresh, and hopefully use the same “friendly name” without problems.
