Hi. I was previously connected to Plex Media Server, but today I opened it up to get this message.
Without being able to connect to the server where I store my media, I can’t watch any of it on my television. Previously, I just had to go into Media Server and hit refresh and everything worked again. But that’s not helping now. Can anyone assist me?
Do you get a connection if you load the local web app?
i.e. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web (if Plex server is running on the same machine)
Yes, I see all of my media by clicking on the link you sent. I’m rather confused because I thought that I was supposed to open plex by following these steps:
- Go to plex.tv, which takes me to https://watch.plex.tv/me
- Click “My Media”, which takes me to https://www.plex.tv/your-media/
- Click “Open App”, which results in the screenshot I took above.
Also, how can I access my media files through the Plex app on my tv?
There are two versions of the web app: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288666-opening-plex-web-app/
Your procedure above can be cut short by simply storing a bookmark to https://app.plex.tv on your desktop, or in your browser.
(Tip: you can save even more time by telling your web browser to retain the cookies from [*].plex.tv when it’s closed.)
That aside, check that your web browser is not preventing “the website” plex.tv from accessing your local network: https://forums.plex.tv/t/important-note-about-the-plex-web-app-local-network-access/933264/1
Also, I see that you have created a new “identity” for your Plex server within the last day.
That means that all libraries that were pinned/favorited in your Plex clients now point to the wrong server. Perform a new pinning/favoriting run in the various client apps.

Hi Otto.
Could you please show me where it says I created a new identity? Are you saying my content is linked to my original identity, and this new one hasn’t been mapped yet? Is there a way to delete the new identity and keep the old one? Maybe I’m misunderstanding what youre saying?
I cannot. This is in your account on plex.tv which is not publicly visible.
Did you delete the Plex branch of the Windows registry?
Or did you perhaps run Plex server under a different Window suser accont (either by “Run as Administrator” or by simply logging out and back in to a different Windows user) ?
Hi Otto.
I’m not sure because I pressed/undressed a lot of buttons to try and fix this on my own. I can show you a few screenshots of my settings as they currently stand.
Sorry, these screenshots don’t contain anything pertaining to the issue.
This did the trick. I can watch on my tv now. Is there anything else I need to do?
No. If you can access your media all should be well.
