Can't delete playlists?

I have two playlists in my playlist section that I’m unable to delete… Plus, I never actually ‘created’ them myself.

It seems they were generated by the old iTunes plugin for Plex, as their names match playlists I previously had in the iTunes application.

These playlists are empty, with no content, and when I attempt to add media from my library, these playlists don’t appear as options in the dropdown menu. It’s as if they don’t actually exist. Instead, they simply sit there in my playlists section… Tormenting me!

Deleting them through the usual playlist deletion process hasn’t been successful either, as there’s no option to delete them in the menu. I’ve also tried deleting the playlists from within the iTunes application. But alas… in Plex, this doesn’t make any difference.

What’s peculiar is that these playlists only show up on some of my devices—specifically, my two Apple TVs and my iPhone. I’ve tried reinstalling the Plex app on these devices, but still the issue persists.

I’m now thinking the most likely solution, is to completely uninstall the old iTunes plugin from the Plex server. However, attempting to do this results in an error message saying, “The plugin could not be uninstalled.” (See screenshot)

After hours of searching the web without finding any solutions, I’m at my wits end with this one… Can someone please help??

The plugins located in the PMS folder

~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/ and in there would be the itunes plugin.

We stopped shipping PMS with that a long while ago and i can’t recall the file name but if you quit server delete that then start up server is may let you delete the playlists

Server settings - Library - ‘Show Advanced’ - Enable iTunes Plugin

Hey guys - firstly, thank you SO much for your replies.

OttoKerner, I followed your advice and unticked the ‘Enable iTunes Library’, and this seems to have finally gotten rid of the iTunes plugin! :grinning:

BigWheel, I also went to the Plug-Ins folder you mentioned, and can confirm there is no trace of an iTunes related plugin in that directory :slightly_smiling_face:

Unfortunately however, the playlists still remain! So we’re halfway there…

I noticed that on my iPhone, these playlists actually have a little folder icon in the corner. So I guess this means they’re not technically Playlists? But rather folders designed to contain playlists? I thought this additional detail might be relevant to troubleshoot how to eliminate them.

I’ve added a couple more screenshots for context, so you can see how they appear on my iPhone. (The first image shows how they appear amongst my playlists, and the second shows what is displayed when going into one of these blank folder/playlists.)

Any thoughts on what to try next?

Anyone else have any further ideas on how to fix this? I’m truly stumped… :disappointed_relieved:
