My iTunes Library is 9,127 albums - 1.31 TB - via the iTunes Plugin and itunes.xml, Plex Media Server is adding the content of the iTunes library… for a while… and then seemingly getting stuck. So far, 2873 items (albums) have been added. Quitting the Server and re-starting sometimes restarts the Scan successfully but not always. What do I need to do to make Plex add all the items in the iTunes Library?
Let’s just say the whole iTunes import, and iTunes Library plugin has been secretly deprecated, unofficially and ALLEGEDLY cuz the plugin is still IN the server settings.
I attempted to assist someone on a Windows instance of Plex Server wanting to import their iTunes Library but realized no matter if you had the Plugin activated and had the path assigned to where the iTunes library.xml was, there was no longer import tools or menu items in regards to importing from iTunes, from both Mac and Windows environments. There have been threads in the past about the importing being broken but no one is sure if iTunes importing is going to be fixed.
There’s a PLAYLISTS menu item that should be displayed on the Left side where you have items pinned. If you don’t happen to see PLAYLISTS listed and pinned, you’ll have to scroll all the way down until you see MORE. Once you click on MORE from the left side menu, you should be able to find PLAYLISTS listed amongst the rest of the menu items. Click on Playlists and find the three dots pertaining to that.
I clicked on MORE but there’s no item called PLAYLISTS. I’ve dug around on many of the 3 dots, I have set up TIDAL and can see those Playlists. But that’s a different matter. My iTunes Library is pretty vast, nearly 10,000 albums, and Plex is scanning most of the time.
If I could find the PLAYLISTS link, what does that enable me to do? And, why do you think I don’t have it?
I’m on the beta release of the Plex Server due to me having a Plex Pass, but because of that the current version that I’m on, it has the Import From iTunes returned, at least for the moment. I just noticed it yesterday and it drove me insane as it wasn’t even there previously.
I was just hoping you may have seen it available to you but you’re on the public stable release. You should have access to the update of Plex Server I’m on very soon. You’ll just have to wait a bit.
Although I’m now running Plex Media Server 1.25.7.5604 there’s still no ‘PLAYLISTS’ option.
While I can see most of my iTunes Library being served on PLEX, there are a number of albums that are displayed twice.
Select a music file or a video file, click on the … and select “add to playlist”. Reload Plex Web and you should see “Playlist” under that library and as a separate entry when you click “more” on the sidebar.
Did you enable the plugin in your server settings and specify the location of the iTunes XML file? Did you also enable iTunes to generate the XML? iTunes no longer does this by default.
Yes, I did enable the plugin in the server settings, and yes, I did point it to itunes.xml which iTunes is set to Share with other applications. Now the Playlist is overpopulated with duplicates. It also doesn’t seem to recognise Smart Playlists.
The import feature is a one time thing. It does not sync with iTunes. Each time you run it, it will create duplicates. You should be able to delete a playlist from the … menu.
Smart playlists only work if the exact same rule can be set in Plex.
