iTunes Plugin - Unable to get this to work

Hello all,

I am trying to import my iTunes playlists to my server however I am having issues that I cannot understand.

All machines referenced below are running Windows 10.

So, I have a main server, running version 1.22.3.4392. I cannot get the iTunes plugin to show up. I have ticked ‘Enable iTunes plugin’, restarted server numerous times. I have manually entered the XML file path, restarted, no change.

I almost gave up, but thought i would instead try a fresh plex server install on a different PC. I downloaded the same server version from Plex (1.22.3.4392), installed, and repeated the same steps. To my suprise, I checked the Console on the second PC/server and could see that Plex was looking at the iTunes XML, loading it and attempting to re-create the playlists. This was failing however i could at lease see in the Console that Plex was trying to load the file. After fixing the file paths inside the XML, I was able to load all of my playlists on my new server. While this is great, I still need to get this working on my existing server, not the test server.

I really would like to get the iTunes plugin to work with my existing server as that already contains my librarys, playlists, file ratings etc.

The main difference i have noticed between the main server (iTunes plugin not working) and the new test server (iTunes plugin working) is that under Settings → Server → Manage → Plugins - the main server shows ‘No plugins installed’ while the working server shows two iTunes plugins, iTunes Music and iTunes Video.

Now, how can I get the plugin installed on the existing server? I have tried deleting my entire Plex database and registry files (after creating a backup) and re-installing Plex on the main machine but I cannot get the iTunes plugin to show under Settings → Server → Manage → Plugins. I even tried moving the Plex database and registrys from the test server to my main server, and while the playlists were transferred, the iTunes plugin would still not appear.

One thing i did think of, i originally installed Plex Server on my test PC approx a year ago, when i was first trying out Plex. I had since removed it and installed it on my current server machine instead. Is it possible that the iTunes plugin was included in older versions of Plex, but no longer exists in new versions? And the iTunes plugin somehow remained on my test system even when installing the latest version of Plex, with no other versions installed?

Or, is ticking ‘Enable iTunes Plugin’ under ‘Settings → Plugins’ supposed to prompt a download or enable the plugin in the background? If so, why is this not doing anything on my current server?

I am pretty sure the iTunes Plugin needs to show under Settings → Server → Manage → Plugins for the iTunes plugin to work, but i dont know what i can do to get it there.

I have now tested a third machine, downloading the latest version of PMS, following my usual steps and still no plugin!

I was thinking of perhaps trying to install an old version of plex to see if this comes with the Plugin installed, but I dont have any old installers and it looks like Plex do not provide access to them.

I would really appreciate any help.

Further to the above, I realise the title of the thread is incorrect.

I have been able to get the iTunes plugin to work, albiet on one machine that I do not intend to use to host my media. I also dont know the iTunes plugin works on this machine however…

Since posting this thread I have tested fresh install of plex on two different machines, both of which have iTunes installed, and i have not been able to replicate my successful import of my iTunes Playlists. Again, i believe this is because the iTunes plugin on Plex isnt actually being enabled on the fresh installs.

The only server that I have been able to get this to work on has ‘iTunes’ installed as a plugin under Settings → Server → Manage → Plugins.

Again, I have exported the entire ‘working’ Plex database, which has the iTunes plugin enabled and my imported playlists, to a new machine with a fresh install (using the backup and restore guides on these forums) but once restored on a new machine, the iTunes plugin is missing.

I cant find much information online when trying to diagnose this issue, most of the issues come from people needing to correct their library.xml files.

I would really appreciate any help
Thanks
