Can't edit the Directors or Writers Tags as it repopulates with old tag. (video in post)

I can’t edit the Directors or Writers Tags as it repopulates with old tag. Below is a video of what is happening, I also tried restarting the server.

This still isn’t working is this a bug?

Is it an MP4 file? Perhaps it’s getting a director credit in a tag from the MP4 format.

Thanks for the response. I just checked it’s an mkv. I opened it with mp3tag anyway to check and there were zero tags. Any other ideas? Hoping a Plex team member can check. I think this may be a bug with their newer agent.

Um, sorry, that was all I could think of. I have no idea how a show gets director/writer credit for each episode. Perhaps it’s done on the upper Show level, not on the individual episodes.

If so, that seems short-sighted, since some shows have wildly different cast from episode to episode.

Edit: Just tried it on an episode of my own show and it worked. Is that UI the Plex-for-Windows app? It works for me in a Chrome browser. See if doing it in the browser works for you.

I’m using chrome web browser. I’ve tried in chrome on Mac, windows, and android (desktop website).

The only thing I have different is I have episode ordering set to TVDB DVD in advanced settings. I’m pretty sure this is a bug with that specific setup as I can properly change directors and writers when not using DVD ordering. Can a Plex team member confirm this for me?

Does anyone else have any clue? This is driving me crazy.

Is there a way to directly edit the database?

I’ve heard of people who have edited the database for other things, but I’d wager it’s pretty dangerous to do unless you are a database expert and know the schema very well. It’s usually used to mass change certain flags (locked fields, or watched status), so any existing support on database query SQL code may only be for those cases.

The latest beta PMS has a change that might be relevant to this -

I just tested it and am still having the exact same problem. Unfortunately I think it’s a bug in relation to using DVD ordering of the episodes within that specific show. When I change it to normal ordering I don’t have the problem anymore. I’ve tested this on a few series and get the same results. I wish I could notify the dev team somehow about this bug but I’m not sure how to get their attention. If a team member is reading this post by chance please see my video in my first post. It clearly illustrates the bug and I’m almost positive I’ve narrowed this down to DVD ordering. I can answer any additional questions if you have them.
