Is it possible to do a mass edit of TAGS anywhere OTHER than inside Plex? I have some where I made a spelling error on an actors name and some others I’d like to simply remove… Is this possible? Is there a file I can open and edit?
Thanks.

Actor names cannot be edited within Plex at all.
Normally, actor manes are fetched from online metadata databases. So if there is a spelling mistake you need to signup there and correct th error at the source.
If your movies get their actor names from embedded metadata (only possible in mp4/m4v files), then you need a metadata editor which can handle these types of file (Mac: iTunes, Windows e.g. mp3tag )

I’m talking about in the TAGS section. I create tags for actors, themes, 3D, Musical, Christmas, etc… When you add them, there is no way (that I know of) to delete or edit them… Thus, I’m asking if it is possible outside of Plex.
You delete them by clicking the little ‘x’ next to each name. If you have several movies with the same tag that you want to delete, you can do them all at once by filtering on the misspelled actor’s name, selecting all of the resulting movies, then clicking the Edit tool. Go to the Tags page, and the Collections field will contain only the tags that the selected movies have in common (probably just the misspelled name). Delete the misspelled tag by clicking the ‘x’, then create a new tag. Click 'Save Changes.

And I thought my picture would help… LOL Ok… There is a SAVED list of all the tags YOU create. I don’t necessarily mean the ones that are shown IN a section…but rather…the master LIST of tags. (Another sucky part of PLEX is that you can almost never see more than 1 or 2 lines of that list at a time… Even if are lucky enough to get it to scroll properly… I should up a video of that pain in the butt…) I know how to get rid of the tags that you can see currently. But again, I am only talking about the MASTER LIST of entries you have created (or were created by meta in a film.) When you create the new tags… I want to edit THAT list.
Where is this master list? Is it in viewable / editable format outside of PLEX server?

This so called master list is not directly editable.
Simply because it is generated dynamically from e.g. all movie actors.
As soon as no movie has a particular actor anymore, his/her name will vanish from the ‘master list’.
The ‘edit’ dialog is still on the old Web v2 level. It eventually will be redesigned just like the other parts of Plex Web already are…
I guess no one is understanding what I am talking about… oh well… Maybe I am the only person that actually fills out the TAGS section by entering my own data into it… So I guess what it boils down to is that I can CREATE entries for this but I can never delete entries I have created. If so, that’s all I wanted to know…
Thanks though for those that tried to help out…

It is my understanding that these entries vanish from the list as soon as they have been removed from the last item. Or the item itself has been removed from the library.
(Maybe this only happens after a ‘database optimization’, which you either trigger manually or it is done periodically by the Plex butler.)

Well, this isn’t the case as I have 2 actors that I added…I misspelled the names. Those misspelled names are NOT used in any of the movies…yet, I see them in the list still when I can actually get it to show me more than one line of the list at a time.
Is it possible that the list you are referring to is actually generated by your web browser?
You know the comfort function which remembers input which was typed into a form field before and offers as possible “auto-complete” options, as soon as you start typing into the same form field again?
I am referring to the list shown here. Am I seriously the only person that has ever entered their own information under the TAGS tab??? Thus the only one that knows about these lists? When you start to enter text into any of the ‘bars’ a list DROPS DOWN under the bar you are filling out.
I asked and was told that this list may get winnowed down when Plex Server is restarted.
You might wanna try this.
I cleaned some of my spelling mistakes directly in the database. I posted about cleaning up some auto generated tags in this thread: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/244092/i-want-to-edit-all-the-collection-tags-in-my-movies
let me know if you need any help with that.

I understood what you were talking about. In my experience, when I add a Collection tag to one or more movies, the tag appears in that dropdown list. When I remove a tag from all movies that carry that tag, the tag no longer appears in that dropdown. Why that’s not happening for you, I can’t say.
Can you please try to export zur libraries using that nice Plex plzgin and search for the misspelled names in the Excel Tables that See created?
