I have an amazon fire tv box and my plex is on a seedbox server, even after optermizing my shows they still fall back to transcoding, how can I get it to play directly. Thanks.
Direct playing a file has to do with the file format and the quality settings in the app. Please recreate the issue and provide a log from the app so we can see what is going on.
Where do I find the log file on the fire tv box?
-
Using subtitles? If so, turn them off. What happens?
-
Which AFTV model? There are several generations of both boxes and sticks.
-
Find out why things are transcoding.
In Plex app settings, set Display Information = On.
During playback, pull up on-screen controls (pause, FF, etc). Look in upper left corner of display. It will show if video is direct play, direct stream, transcode, and give a reason if one of latter two.
What does it show during playback?
- FYI, AFTV questions should be tagged with fire-tv, not android-mobile.

Says not enough bandwidth for direct play requires 31000kbps and only 14000 available… I’ve done a speed test though and I have a download speed of 70Mb/s
Can you get the PMS logs too?
In addition to logs, double check the settings on the FireTV and PMS.
Plex app on FireTV, Video Quality
Adjust automatically = off
Home & Internet streaming = maximum
In Plex server, Settings -> Remote Access
What is setting for Internet Upload Speed? Ideally this matches the upload speed from your seedbox. Obviously need to be faster than 31 Mbps.
Set Limit Remote Stream Bandwidth = Original
That did it, I remember setting the upload speed to my isp’s max not thinking it’s obviously my seedboxes upload speed I needed, I’ve set it to 0 which I assume is unlimited and I now have direct play. Thanks guys.
