Can't get EPG to load

Plex DVR has been an interesting experiment. Since I resolved my zero-byte recordings issue in MythTV, and this being a horrible experience and other EPG problems that I read, I’m falling back to my previous solution for DVR. In all the years with MythTV, I’ve NEVER had any issues with retrieving the program guide. Given enough time, the Plex team will fix the bugs. At present, it feels like they are using the community to product test its deliverable.

How did you get it to work on the Shield? I’d be delighted to use that since it works well on my Ubuntu system but I can’t find any way to make it work on the Shield.

You’ll have to remove and re-add your DVR device from the plex media server application or plex.tv web app. Then when it asks you to enter your zip code, there should be a line at the top that says something about “use your own xml file”. Once you click on that link, you should be able to browse for your xml file.

I ran the zap2xml command on my PC that generates the file and then moved the files over to my Shield storage. I allow my Shield to be accessed via my network, so I’m able to run a Scheduled Task on my PC to refresh the guide on my Shield storage every night at 2am. This has been working great for me for the past few weeks.

Let me know if this helps, otherwise, I can provide a more concise explanation.

Thanks, I know about the setup. I just want something to work on the Shield directly so it is “stand-alone.” I use the Zap2XML on my Ubuntu system at night and it works like a champ. Just don’t want to have to use two systems to accomplish a simple task.

Did you have to do anything special to get the .xmltv file to copy? I keep getting a dropped network connection but just on that file. I’m running Ubuntu, not Windows, if that makes any difference.

Never mind…determined that it was due to the fact the Shield only does ver. 1.0 of CIFS. Had to modify my mount command to take this into consideration.

Hey, sorry for getting back to you late on this. I’m not too savvy with the Linux OS. But from the looks of it, you managed to get zap2xml working on a schedule, yes?

If not, it seems Plex’s default EPG (Gracenote) is working again without issue, for me, anyways.

Yes, got the script running on one of my Ubuntu machines putting the files on the Shield. Runs a a cron job every night at 1pm then Plex runs the guide update at 2am. Keeping two PMS servers guide data updated this way.

I keep hoping that Plex will get things working, but I can’t keep going back and forth as you need to delete and recreate the dvr every time.

I was stuck at 0% when adding a new DVR and had “Skipping channel (channel) because it’s not a unique call sign” errors in my log file. I just tried signing out my server and then signing it back in (on the Settings -> General page) and I was able to successfully setup my HDHR.
