Can't get Remote Access to work

Trying to run Plex, I get the “Not available outside your network” message. I’ve been running Plex on my Windows 10 PC for several years with no problems, but it started acting up a few months ago.

I’ve been trying to check for Double NAT (none), set up static IPs and set up port forwarding, but I haven’t been successful.

Here’s my hardware:

Windows 10 PC, latest Plex software (1.14.0.5470)

Xfinity Router( model …6), set to Bridge mode. (Dunno if it’s meaningful, but I still see an Xfinity wireless network and another network coming from the Xfinity router.)

Orbi Wireless Router

I’ve set up static IP for the Orbi, I guess that’s the 192.168.1.55 one.

I’ve set up Port Forwarding from 32400 to 32400.

When I run Remote Access in Plex, I get:

Private 192.168.1.55:32400 <= Public 24.6.49.xxx:32400 X (in red, followed by a small globe icon) Internet

I’ve been working on this for several days, trying to read help docs on the web, to no avail.

I think it’s interesting that everything worked a few months ago, without all the work I’ve been trying to do with static IPs and port forwarding.

Can anyone help, I’d really appreciate it?

Have you had any luck?

You could try connecting your plex server to your comcast router, instead of your orbi router. It should still be accessible to your orbi subnet, and you’d only have to deal with 1 set of port forwarding instead of two.

Right now, you’ll need to forward the port range from your comcast router, to your orbi router, and then from your orbi router to your plex server.

Alternatively, you could set your comcast router to have your orbi router be the dedicated DMZ, and just have all ports open.

So. for at least the last month Plex has been telling me that it’s not accessible from outside the network, but it has been accessible outside. Today it stopped working, and I’m back to the start in trying to understand what I need to do. So, here’s what I’ve done:

  1. used PortForwarding utility to set static IP for IP indicated as my Private IP.
  2. I’m in AP mode for my Orbi (connected to my Xfinity …6 router in Bridge Mode). In my Orbin Login page, Port Forwarding is greyed out (I think because I’m in AP mode). Can’t do port forwarding through Orbi.
Should I revert to Router mode in my Orbi? Where do I go from here?

I think I figured out that if my Orbi is in AP mode, then I need to specify port forwarding in my Xfinity router. As such, I went to Xfinity router login and added port forwarding as follows:
Common Service: Other
Service Name: Plex
Service Type: TCP/UDP {could have selected one or the other, as well)
Server IPv4 Address: 50. … (my static IP address)
Server IPv6 Address: 2601.647…
Start Port: 32400
End Port 32400

I think that’s progress. Where to from here?

OMG, it seems to be working! Is it supposed to? Am I done, back in business?
