I got the newest version of the player running on a BeeLink GT King in the old player mode. After a couple hours fighting with it, I finally got it to play (most of the time). I feel like I paid full price for half finished software, but it has potential so I will keep at it.
So my current problem is that I keep getting this small white box at the top center of the screen telling me what I’ve watched and not finished. It says the title, year, length, and shows a thumbnail. I thought I got rid of it when I found the thread saying to mark the shows that I started and didn’t finish as watched. However, now it keeps popping up with the show I am currently watching. I tried exiting the movie, marking it as watched, and going back into the movie, but after like 20 minutes, it just pops up again. It is really distracting, so if one of you can help me, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks FordGuy61, but the push notifications are off and I can’t find any filter settings. I checked through every server and client setting I could find but nothing looked like it would remove this. I’ve included a picture of the screen. It’s the white box at the top center that I am trying to find a way of removing.
First, sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems with the app. In order to investigate the issue, let me ask you for a couple of things:
In the picture attached, I can barely see what the white box is saying so if you can provide a better quality picture, it would be nice.
Could you provide app logs? You can do it following https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs
I can get you the logs and picture later when I get home, but I feel like this is more of a feature to be disabled than a bug to be fixed. It is a banner that says the movie name, release year, length, and then gives a thumbnail for the movie. For the picture above, it says:
Renaissance Man
1994 2 Hrs 8 Mins
and then on the right, it has a thumbnail from what I am guessing is the DVD cover.
Without logs, it’s hard for me to know if the issue is just an actual issue or as you say a feature to be disabled. For the description shared here, it might be an issue about the “Application layout” use in the app (where you can set if the app should run in mobile or TV model), or an issue about how your device is identified as a TV device or a mobile one.
Apparently it isn’t just when a movie is playing. I was trying to get a movie to play, but kept getting an error message (claims it lost connection to the server;more on that below) and now it is giving me that white box with info from that movie while I am in the screen showing my movie library.
As for the error message, it is saying Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. I know this is a separate issue, but the other threads I’ve found mentioning this haven’t had any comments by Plex employees and no fixes listed (links below), so I figured since I had your attention, I should mention it. It only affects certain videos, while other videos work fine. It also only affects my android app (newest version from the Google Play store, downloaded 2 days ago), but running it from my Windows machine will play those videos with no problem.
Thanks for the extra information. So yeah it seems that those white panels are displayed from our recommendations system. Such system only runs on Android TV devices, in order to populate the home screen with recommendations. Is there any chance you could provide the device you are running the app in? Thanks in advance
That is correct. Beelink GT King. The entire description header from Amazon for the exact one I have is as follows:
Beelink GT King TV Box Android 9.0 Amlogic S922X Hexa-core G52 MP6 Graphics 4GB DDR4 64GB ROM 2.4G + 5.8G WiFi Bluetooth 4.1 4K 60fps Support 2.4G Voice Remote Control
Ok, after checking a bit for the device specs and so, it seems that even being an Android TV device, it displays some sort of mobile-ish mode (apps are launched in “mobile” version, it has notifications like a regular mobile phone, etc). Unfortunately, our recommendation service is launched for every device recognised as a TV (either checking the device system features, or from the application layout set in app preferences). Unfortunately it’s bit tricky to deal with those hybrid systems, as there is no way we can check if a system is running in that hybrid mode, but can investigate if there is something we could do about that.
Thanks
Thank you. Hopefully you guys can find a fix or work-around soon. It ruins the movie experience having a big bright white box pop up and block off the top of the screen.
When you get the chance, could you take a look at the other 2 threads I made mention to the other day (I included the links below)? I don’t want to open another when there are already at least 2 tracking the same issue, but both of them have been open for 3 months without any comments from a Plex Employee. The problem makes over half my library completely unwatchable with Plex.
