Server Version#: 1.40.5.8897
Player Version#: 4.133.0
Plex app Version#: 2.012
OS: Linux Mint 22
TV: Samsung with Smart Hub
Sound bar: Vizio
After reinstalling Plex Media Server on my Linux machine (Linux Mint 22, MATE desktop) and reinstalling the Plex app on my TV, I can’t get sound working. Before the reinstall (on Linux Mint 18), everything worked fine.
Whenever I play a video, the video is fine but I get no sound and the sound bar blinks the lights that indicated an unsupported sound format. In the app settings, I switched the sound output to PCM, as the sound bar manual says, but that didn’t work. And I tried all of the other sound settings with no luck.
Check your server logs about 3 minutes after starting up
If you have too many directories being monitored, there won’t be any for audio transcoding of Dolby audio.
If you need to increase:
Otherwise, check permissions on transcoder temp directory, etc .
It’s going to be something silly and obvious because the player is in control over what happens to both video and audio.
I restarted the server, connected from the TV, played a video (same problem), then downloaded the logs. So sign of any errors, just lots of DEBUG messages. I see my connection from the TV and the video I played. Nothing noteworthy.
I don’t have very many directories being monitored, so I don’t think this is the issue.
In /tmp I see pms-8768f677-c490-48d6-baf7-230245efda37/, which I assume is the Plex transcoder directory. It’s currently empty, bu it’s owned by user plex, so the permissions seem ok.
