I was watching a copy of Station Eleven, found the audio a little lacking and went to turn on subtitles for this episode. So I click on Station Eleven, then the season, then the episode (shouldn’t be this much work, right?). OK, subtitles on, but they’re not in sync. Oh well. Turn the subtitles back to off.
And the sound no longer works. With every file I’ve tried, including files that worked yesterday.
I uninstalled everything, downloaded new installation files, reinstalled everything, reboots before and after. Still no sound.
Can you please verify that audio works in general? If it does not, check your default audio playback device setting to ensure it didn’t roll back/over to a different device.
Looked in the logs and turned on debug. Out of the 100+ log files, I looked at the most recent Plex Media Server log. This was the only log that matched the time frame of my most recent attempt to play after setting debug. There were 10 errors that said “Unknown metadata type:”
The other thing that strikes me is that I just uninstalled and reinstalled and there are log files 3 months old. Maybe there is an option for a more complete nuking of all those files, registry entries what have you.
So I ran chkdsk for good measure and did a really complete nuking of my latest setup using Wise Program Uninstaller, CCleaner, etc. Thousands of files removed that the standard uninstaller leaves behind. Reinstalled again.
It’s working, kind of. Sound is working. It runs off the Server software, which when I click on takes me to a web interface which I’ve never used, and I seem to have to select a server and sign in each time. The windows software says there is no connection (“currently unavailable”) which I guess I’ll start another thread on.
But down the road I rebooted and they were different problems. Went to a Windows reset, more problems, then a complete Windows reinstall. Plex still managed to misclassify most of my media that it had originally done just fine with. Got rid of the libraries (one forum post was very helpful on this) and re-introduced media slowly, and now everything is working. Crosses fingers.
Have to say, some of the worst software I’ve ever had to deal with.
Unfortunately, it’s the only thing that I can get to do the things it does when it is working.
