I’ve been trying to test out Watch Together, but I haven’t been able to create a session through my Android TV or the web player. I sent my friend a friend request, he accepted it, and he shows up as a friend on my end. In both players, I selected a TV episode to try to watch, and went through the screens to invite my friend. On my TV, I get a generic error message, and on the web I get “Unable to send invite. Please try again.”
I’m able to start a ‘watch together’ session. But when watching anything with multiple parts, when it gets to part 2, it’ll continue playing normally for everyone I’ve invited, but for me it just shoots back to the first frame of the first part and the image stays frozen there while the player continues counting down, as it is still running normally for everyone else but me. (No sound either.) It’s been doing this on both my TV (fire stick), and my computer (PC).
And since there isn’t any way for me to just start off at part 2 while hosting a watch party, I’m basically unable to continue watching along with everyone else, and wind up having to branch off and watch it separately from my group, which completely defeats the entire purpose of this feature in the first place.
I get an error message every Friday and Saturday night (most frequently) between 9 p.m and 11 p.m. I can play anything fine and the person with remote access to my server can play it fine independently.
But if you try the watch together feature it says there was an error and to please try again later
It also on many occasions gets stuck in an endless loop showing the same 5 seconds over and over till both parties have to exit, delete the old session and restart the video from the beginning.
All parties involved get frustrated and it can really ruin the night especially when it happens multiple times for the same episode or movie
Almost none of my content transcodes and i have a 500/500 ethernet connection to all devices.
I also noticed this on the plex support page
"Our Watch Together feature is currently free for all users when streaming from our free, ad-supported “Movies & TV” streaming service and for personal media from a Plex Media Server during the initial preview period
No word on how long that initial preview period is going to last. Hopefully they fix it before they start requiring a Plex Pass to use it
