Can't Leave Home Screen After Plex Update

Server Version#: 1.15.2
Player Version#: 2.31.0.967-a95b6d76

I could use an explanation for this-

When I open Plex Media Player on my Mac (Mojave 10.14.4 [18E226]), no matter what I click on, Plex does not leave the home screen. The app tries to load what I click on but immediately comes back to the home screen! I’ve tried re downloading and it didn’t fix the issue!

I’ve had this problem for months. Just reinstalled to see if it would fix it and it still does it.

To reiterate for any plex employees reading:

THE WINDOWS PLEX PLAYER DOES NOT WORK AT ALL AND HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR MONTHS

Is your Plex player from the windows App Store or from Plex directly? What version is your Plex player?

I downloaded the Mac OS X version from Plex directly

Can you get the logs after it happens? https://support.plex.tv/articles/207338748-plex-media-player-logs/#toc-1

Did you try deleting everything before you reinstalled? https://support.plex.tv/articles/207336318-uninstalling-plex-media-player/#toc-1 (you can back them up by moving them someplace else if nothing wrong with them)

I’ve had this problem for weeks, if not months now.

I have the latest plex server running on my synology, and I use google chrome on my mac to access plex.

Every single time I open plex it gets stuck on the home screen (Dashboard).
To fix the problem I have to sign out and then back into plex.
This solves the problem immediately, but I wish I knew what was causing this and how to fix it.

I never use to have this problem.

Just checking in to say I am having the same problem.

Running Media Server on a windows 10 PC, downloaded from plex themselves. This happens using the plex media player app (from plex as well) directly on the same PC. The only workaround for me has been to “open plex” from the media server icon in the task bar overflow, which just launches the web version of the app.

Are we all talking about the web browser app or Plex Media Player?

If I’m correct then I’m talking specifically about the web browser app.
I’m not sure what the difference is between what you refer to as plex media player and web browser app.
I assumed that they were the same thing.

Basically I open a tab in chrome and type in the web address of my plex i.e http://192.168.1.100:32400/web/index.html

I then end up on plex and at the top it says “Discover - All libraries” which is a drop down menu.
If I try to click on any of my libraries it just stays on this home page where it shows the last thing i was watching as well as other listed movies.

I am able to click on any of these and play them with no problem, but i’m not able to click on any of my libraries so that I can go to my photos or series or anything else.

Basically i’m stuck on this page until I sign out and then sign back in.

SOLVED IT. Thank you. Signing out and back in again did the trick!

this topic that was opened is about Plex Media Player. which is this. Now I am not really clear what the original poster is talking about.

does it happen when you use https://app.plex.tv/desktop (which is almost alway the newest version of web app)

I’ll have to give it a test because i’ve never used it that way before, but is that still completely local or is it working over the internet?

No problem at all. Glad it helped because before I tried that as a last resort it use to drive me crazy, as plex became unusable.

I just wish there were answers as to why it happens and how to fix it properly

once the interface loads it is all local. streams go straight from server to whatever device you are using it on.

If it says “Nearby” under server name it knows it is local
