Locked out of my Plex Media Server and app is generally dysfunctional

Server Version#: 1.15.2.793-78228199
Player Version#: 3.83.1

Ever since I updated my Plex Media Server to the latest version a few days ago, several things just stopped working.

First, I will note that I am the only user/admin on this server. The server is installed on a Mac Mini running Mojave hooked up to my TV. The media used by it is on external drives hooked up to the Mac Mini.

The first and most important broken thing is that when I go to the settings, it takes me to the “Web Client - General” page by default, which is fine. When I try to click on any of the other tabs on the left, it says this message:

“No soup for you! You do not have access to this server.”

I appreciate the irony of this message coming up during my binge of the Seinfeld episodes I recorded, but come on. As soon as that message comes up, a few things happen:

  1. Most of the options in the left nav disappear and it appears to go into some sort of non-admin mode. I can get the options to come back if I refresh my browser, but again - I still can’t get to any of them because of what I described. This also means I’m unable to get to the page that checks for and installs updates.
  2. When I try to click the home page icon, it does not go to the home page. Instead, the remaining non-admin left nav options disappear and are replaced with this:

The server “undefined” is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again.

(2 continued)
Beneath this message are options to try again or say “where is my server”. Neither of these links help. The funny thing is, I can still see my currently playing Seinfeld episode at the bottom of the window. At this point, the only way to make the home page and the original settings page to appear is to refresh the browser. However, the same results happen even after refreshing the browser and following the same steps.

The second thing that’s broken (which may be related to the first thing I described above) is that when I load Plex in my browser, it loads the home page as expected, but clicking any of the options in the left nav - playlists, TV shows, etc - does nothing. So I’m now only able to access media that appears on my home page (which becomes inaccessible as soon as I start clicking through the settings as I described above).

At this point, I don’t see any way to use the normal method of updating and hoping for a fix for this issue (using the updates page in the app) since I can’t even access the updates page. I tried downloading the current version of Plex Media server from the Plex site and reinstalling, but that didn’t fix anything (it’s the same version I have now anyway). At this point, my server is hosed. Please fix asap.

I followed the instructions at the link below and this fixed my issue.

It should be noted that I now don’t randomly lose my admin access anymore. However, when I click on my playlists in the left nav from the dashboard, it says “There was an unexpected error loading these playlists” and then doesn’t load them. I get a similar error when I click any of the libraries. On to the next issue!

I tried the link above again followed by deleting Plex Media Server and reinstalling from the Plex site to no avail. Ran all the different scans from the ellipses on the libraries. They showed they were running from the process icon at the top right and then finished. No dice.

A few hours later and the left nav libraries load again like magic. It didn’t show any running scans but clearly it was still “thinking”.
