Can't link movies and tv shows in the SAME collection?

I just tired to add the Stargate movie into a collection with the Stargate tv show by adding the same collection tag to each, but it won’t make a single collection and instead has one for movies and one for tv shows. Is there something I’m missing? And, if not, it’s pretty frustrating that things can’t be link like that since there are many “universes” that have both tv shows and movies - so PLEASE add it as a feature!!

Side note, why don’t collections show up on a tv shows page like they do with movies? That’s also really frustrating!

If I may suggest something, the Stargate movies (Stargate, Ark of Truth, and Continuum) are also listed in the Specials section of SG-1’s thetvdb entry.

What I would suggest is this: either in addition to, or instead of, having them in Movies, you should place them in your SG-1 TV show folder. You might even consider setting Ark of Truth and Continuum as SG-1 s10e21 and e22, respectively. While you would have to edit their metadata yourself (since those entries don’t exist on thetvdb), that would put their viewing order in the correct placement on the timeline in the show.

I know it’s annoying that Movies and TV Shows aren’t in the same collections, but usually a movie associated with a TV series can also be placed in the TV Show folder as a special or its own manually-edited episode.

(This is not to discount the complaint that collections don’t merge, since Emby’s collections do merge and it works better as such. I’m just giving a viable alternative given Plex’s history with completing feature requests.)

Plex for the most part utilizes two different types of databases when trying to figure out what files are. Movies typically look for name and year, while shows tend to look for seasons and episode numbers in addition to the name of the show.

Because the search parameters are different, it is difficult for Plex to “cross pollinate” in a single library… unless as @chyron8472 noted above, it is tricked into thinking the movie is actually an episode of the show. You can always double check if the movie has an entry in thetvdb.com under the show as an episode or special.

I highly doubt you’ll ever get the original Stargate film to integrate properly. Just guessing it’s not been added to the show in the database.

It is. Stargate is s00e01. thetvdb calls it “Stargate: The Movie”

But even if it wasn’t in thetvdb database, it still could be added to Plex. It just would need you to manually tag that “episode” rather than having it done automatically by the agent. Hence the suggestion to add the SG-1 movies to the end of season 10 (where they should be manually tagged) instead of as episodes 7 and 8 of season 0 (where the agent does it automatically).

Pays to look before I type… lol

Right. You can see Movies and Music, from different libraries, in the same Collection. Just not TV shows. Plex should fix.

if you are looking at main collection ( not collection filter) it shows tv shows. it also shows them on the preplay of one of the movies in collection
