Can't manually update to 1.13.5 or 1.13.6

I did some searching but apologize if this is duplicated somewhere else.

I’ve got a TS-451 running QTS 4.3.4.0765 (Build 20180810) and am unable to install the last several versions of PMS when it pulls up the orange banner to tell me to update. I download the latest via the link, and it pulls the QPKG from the Plex server. I go into AppCenter, try to install manually via the + button in the upper right corner, point it to the qpkg and hit install. As soon as I hit install, it tells me that it can’t be installed and to see the log why. It has nothing in the log. I also checked /var/log/message and there’s absolutely nothing in there either.

This has been happening for about a month, definitely the last couple of QTS firmware updates.

Previously, I have had success over the last year or two manually installing PMS whenever there has been an update.

Server Version#: 1.13.4.5271

I had the same issue and created a thread here: https://forums.plex.tv/t/unable-to-install-latest-server-package-on-qnap-nas-64-bit/294399/30.

The long and short is that I logged a ticket with QNAP who basically told me they did not support updating this way. Plex employee Chuck was exceptional in helping me out with a way to do it via the command line.

I would suggest raising a ticket with QNAP as the more of us that do this might mean that they acknowledge the issue and do something about it.

Thanks for answering over on gbooker’s post! Manual CLI worked great! Opened up a ticket with QNAP too.

OMG i am not the only one having this issues I posted days ago about this , I even found a slight work around but it involves going back to older software version but like you CMTNAS I had to manually install every update!! What a pain in the ass and then if something goes wrong in the middle like power outage or Server drops off you spend days trying to find what skipped so YEAH i will look at , chuck or whom found work around and I will SEND A 3rd Ticket again to QNAP even though last one’s were more or less brushed off! they were more worried about some new stuff they were rolling out.
I am not sure if its GBOOKER whom found FIX or Chuck But I want to SAY THX TO BOTH & Post this before I go look at fix BC Plex has more than once lost a page I was on and took me 15 mins to get back to to the page, so i wanted to post first then ill go look @ FIX!
I am so glad it’s NOT JUST ME, I have been trying to fix this like you Cmtnas for almost a year… So Much so I even thought it was my TS -451+ , So I was happy to see your Model cmtnas being so close to mine and you finding what looks like the fix or work around. As I said I posted a few days ago and even tried to help a few others , one I did the other (Laffer98) is still having the same issue so I am going to post a link to this, Like me We were not sure if it was a PLEX Issues, Windows/Server issue, NAS Issue, Software Issue or what so We chose to post over on I will link this to The thread where Laffer98 and I posted before to help the others having same issues …again THX!!! For all who are experiencing this issue,
Please PM me the QNAP trouble ticket number with a link back to this thread so I may coordinate between Engineering and QNAP.

Please also include the QNAP model and Firmware version.

As an INTERIM workaround while this is being investigated:

  1. Upload the PMS qpkg file to a share on the NAS.
  2. SSH into the NAS and cd to that directory.
  3. chmod +x the file
  4. ./filename.qpkg to execute it (it’s a self-contained installer in the QPKG)

thank you i posted back on your other one too on gbooker, but same infor just wonder if should wait for the new Beta QTS 4.3.5 and the 1.13.7. 1.13.7 you mentioned to gbooker

oops edit: I ask because I am about to wipe the drives and add new ones so wondering if i would just do better with a master reboot and then install the newest QTS etc…

What you are proposing to do is extreme and, at this point, likely complete overkill for this particular issue. It would be like burning down a town because you don’t like the color on the signpost when you drove in.

My recommendation to you, presuming you have 4.3.5 installed

  • Install 4.3.4.0675 production firmware ON TOP OF the beta firmware you have. There is no need to “nuke” the box. The OS isn’t even stored on the HDs. It’s on an internal FLASH drive (USB)

  • If you are using PMS 1.13.5 or 1.13.6, Return to 1.13.4 until we get this thing stabilized. I will provide the binary QPKG if needed via PM.

I Still have 4.3.40675 version in my Ts 451+ QNAP I never installed the beta 4.3.5 it only showed up on Qnap tonight, I have Version 1.13.4.5271 on Plex also, it is the ONLY one that works! I can install both a Beta or Public Upgrade Version of PMS but and it says install successful its just when you try to use it, it will not allow plex to fully record, the recording starts and runs for about 40 seconds then says error (I forget the exact wording) so Now its not working …But if I try to Roll back to the Version before and I have re downloaded to make sure they are Clean Downloads too, anyway when i try to install and use i get the same issues. It is ONLY when I roll all the way BACK to Version 1.13.4.5271 that it works with QNAP and PLEX. Anyway Football is on and ive spent 3 hours on forums …lol this is why i brought up a Full dump and refresh BC when i add the new drives and re config the Nas and divide the 1 TB SSD I use for Cashe into 2 - 500 MB cashe drives if need be , I didnt want more issues, but ill give it your try first. Stay on PMS 1.13.4.5271 and 4.3.4.0675 That’s the best combination. 1.13.5 and above have issues.

As for DVR recording… which I’m now understanding is the problem, I definitely need to see log files.

  1. Set DEBUG logging in Settings - Server - General
  2. Start a recording.
  3. When it fails, wait 30 seconds for all to exit.
  4. Settings - server - help - Download Logs
  5. Attach the ZIP file it gives you

I also need to know the make and model tuner you are using

What you said in line 1 was right everything above VER 71 & 0675 is buggy… I already knew that silly …lol

It works in this config with No issues So it would not fail! Chuck its when you install any other software PMS version is when it wont record that was the whole issues i was trying to fix but you just told me its buggy so you could have said that hours ago silly man…lol its all good i can wait till they fix the bugs…if you need some BATS let me know we use them for bugs & mosquitoes here…lol!

Anyway its all good i just thought it was a PLEX or NAS issue originally im ok with it being on 71 for a while, hell its been 2+ months now whats a few more lol!

That having been said, if you already have a plan and want to go forward with it, then go ahead. It’s always your choice to do what you want.

Anyway I was saying that if the others Versions have issues ill just wait it out, you said it your self the others have issues so its cool ill wait until they get it fixed or I get the others Hdd’s set up and installed and if nothings been resolved by then ill Sub a T-Ticket to Qnap again and see if they fixed & if not ill come back and Bug some one else so you wont feel odd… I will be more Butch to them even if my name is not that …lol
Some Advice Chuck if you care to hear it … lighten up some ive been Almost cut in half on Motorcycle and then hit by Lightning being DOS/DOA 2x makes and relearning how to walk and talk you realize alot…So trust me LIFE IS TOO SHORT to be freaked over small stuff !

Didn’t think you were. I know all about adversity. I’ll stop at the “survived a stroke nobody should have” and i’m still here and doing full up tech support and development. Should tell ya something about how I view things too.
