Qnap doesn't have updated packages any more?

Plex Server Version#: 1.16.6.1592
Qnap is a TS-451+ with Firmware 4.4.2.1270

Does anyone happen to know why Qnap never seems to show an update for Plex any more? Back when I orig installed Plex, as the qnap regularly checks for updated apps it would alert me and I would update, but then there hasn’t been any update for Plex for quite a long time. I emailed qnap some time ago, but they’ve never replied to it.

On my plex settings it shows “An update is available. Please install manually”. I’m a little worried about manual install that it might wreck my library or something as I’ve never done that before. Can someone confirm that if I click the Please Install Manually link, and download the PlexMediaServer-1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896-x86_64.qpkg file that is prompted, then go to the App Center, click Install Manually and upload and install this file, it will just update my existing plex, keep my library and meta data all in tact?
Is this the only way to update Plex on an Qnap now?

I did look through the ‘qnap read first’ page for example, from what I can gather online this seems to be the way to do it but i’ve read a few things where people have had issues and am a little worried about the process.
Thanks.

I’m working with QNAP and getting them to start updating the packages automatically again.

They had made changes on their side and requested we make some here to accommodate. I’ve made the changes.

I hope, now that 1.20.0 is available, we’ll soon see them updating as we update our public repo.

Okay thanks. So just hold off and see if it shows up in the app center in a month or two? I’m not sure I need the update, obviously it might fix bugs and such, just everytime i go to plex admin there’s always the update notice.

if you set the update channel to Public in Plex, you’ll get what is on the Plex website.

There’s nothing preventing you from downloading from Plex and performing a manual installation which is the same thing in 1 fewer steps and less fuss.

I’m trying to update on QNAP manually, app is set to Public channel and the latest version that downloads when clicking the link next to whats new is 1.19.5.3112. When I try to install that, QNAP says “The following items could not be installed. Please see the system logs for more details.” but there are no more details in the logs.

Is there another place to download the qpkg? Does 1.19.5.3112 have known issues installing?

There are multiple versions of the package (one for each architecture type QNAP manufactures and is capable of running PMS).

Which machine do you have and which version of QTS is running on it?

I clicked the manual update and downloaded the file, then uploaded and installed manually. So far so good. Also, the update channel only has “Public” as an option, before I updated and after as well.

I’m working with them to update again.
They did make a request for changes which I’ve submitted.

They should start updating any time now.
I also have a meeting with them this week. This updating issue is on the agenda.

Great!

Hello there

Any news about that ?

Cheers.

Yes.

  1. QNAP had a major change in staffing.
  2. The new PM is “getting his house back in order”.

I hope you all understand the implications. I’m not at liberty to say more.

Hey @ChuckPa.
While we all wait for QNAP to “get their house in order”, can you tell me which version of the package I should use to update Plex on a TS-239 Pro II running QTS 4.2.6? (yes, I know it’s ancient).
Thanks!

I’m sorry to be the one giving you the bad news but QNAP has put the NAS in EOL status.

Effective PMS 1.15.0, QTS 4.3 and higher were required due to the glibc 2.14.1 being the Plex minimum. (Current glibc in the mainstream is 2.31 so we upgraded to the bare minimum we needed)

QTS 4.2.6’s version of glibc is lower and unfortunately no longer compatible.

If you happen to find something out there, you’re welcome to use it.

I was afraid you were going to say that, but it’s no surprise. Thanks anyway.
Steve

Hello
My qnap is running under QTS 4.2.6. Do you know where i could find a plex server version beetween 1.15.3 and 1.16 ?

Sadly, Plex doesn’t provide an archive of older versions

@ChuckPa Good Afternoon! Just wondering if there was an update on this as I also can’t manually install updates, and haven’t been able to since 1.19.5.3112.

Cheers!

QNAP Model?

TS-453Be
4.4.3.1421

But you should be able to do a manual update on that, so what happens if you try?
