It’s got to be the media player … exoplayer 2…has to be a Android problem because Roku and web player plays the video fine also I have a formula Z8 box that also plays the video fine through Plex… it just baffles me that Android can’t play that video I’ll have to stick with the other devices for that video LOL
No. However, the video is attempting to direct play, not transcode, so forcing direct play would not make a difference.
Same here.
So the video plays on the Formuler Z8 Android TV box but not on the Shield. The Formuler would use ExoPlayer2, just like the Shield. Strange…
Any chance this is a wifi / networking problem?
If the signal isn’t strong enough Plex could have a problem streaming.
Can the Shield Plex client play anything in your library?
Does Netflix/YouTube/Amazon/etc stream OK on the Shield?
Yes… Nvidia Shield plays everything else… I’m thinking that the videos won’t play is there any way to convert these videos with handbrake software to maybe try that
Yes. You could run them through Handbrake. That should clean things up.
Before you start processing with Handbrake, you might try remuxing the file. It won’t modify the audio/video tracks, just copy them into a new MKV or MP4 container. If it works it will save you a lot of time (minutes per file for remux versus tens of minutes or hours for a transcode).
You can use MKVToolNix or XMediaRecode to remux things.
MKVToolNix will generate a MKV file. It is pretty straightforward. In the Multiplexer window, drag the file into the Input/Source Files area. Make any desired adjustments then click “Start Multiplexing.” You can use the Header Editor portion to change track names, set default flags, etc.
XMediaRecode can generate either MKV or MP4 files. It can also transcode files like Handbrake. When remuxing, make sure you copy the desired tracks. The default is to transcode. Personally, I find XMediaRecode more difficult to use than MKVToolNix, but I do not know of another remux tool for MP4s on Windows (Subler is an excellent tool, but Mac only).
Okay I’ll try tomorrow morning off to work thanks a lot for your help
