Hi, I want to play video files I have stored on a usb drive but plex won’t give me any options for this. I don’t want to stream files from my pc just watch what’s on the usb drive plugged into the xbox one. Is this possible, I don’t want the plex server on my pc
You don’t want the plex server on your PC ! You have picked the wrong product then
Have a look at “what is plex” support page

Hi thanks, I am aware what plex is. I thought I could just use the plex player on my Xbox. So in order to play films with plex on my Xbox I have to have them on a hard drive on my pc and then stream them to my Xbox one, rather than the plex app just look on my Xbox one hard drive. Seem very convoluted to me.
What I mean is, in order to watch the films with plex on my xbox I have to have my pc running
Here’s a link to the requirements for Plex.

Plex is not just a media player. You need a Plex server and then at least one Plex playback device. Since you know what Plex is, then you know it’s a streaming system that requires those pieces in order to function.

Right tool for the right job. For what you want, Plex is the wrong tool. You would need to use the Media Player app on the Xbox One. Plex is meant to be a client server application, the client doesn’t work in the way you are trying to use it.
Okey, many thanks. I just wanted to be able to show the thumbnail posters for my films which the media app doesn’t do. Thank you anyway
