Can't play media on Android mobile app outside of local network

Server Version#: 1.23.5.4862
Player Version#: Android App 8.20.0.26605

Hello, I have PMS installed on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS. The server itself is sitting behind reverse proxy (HAProxy via pfSense), where the certificates are being managed. The custom certificate location, encryption key and the domain have been added under Settings > Network > Advanced (see attached screenshot). I can normally play media from both local and external network on Plex Web player, but on Android app it only works within local network. Whenever I try to stream a video from external network on Android app I get a message ā€œAn error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try againā€. I’ve went through the logs and it looks like when video is being transcoded a warning is reported ā€œ[Transcode] Got a request to stop a transcode session without a valid session GUID.ā€, just before the Android app reports ā€œcom.plexapp.plex.ff.data.FFException: Demuxer failed to open input.ā€ error. Did someone have similar experience with the Android app?

I recently started having the same issue. Any app-based playing has issues playing videos.
On the plex server, Settings > Transcode. Checking off ā€˜disable video stream transcoding’ and within the android app turning on ā€˜Automatically adjust quality’, I’m able to play a video that didnt work before. Temp work around for a larger problem until its fixed.

Hey thanks for the reply! I’ve tried what you have suggested but it doesn’t work for me. I get ā€œUnable to play mediaā€ message in Android app… I guess it really needs to be transcoded, so I can’t really disable transcoding on the backend.

I kept getting that error on every video i tried until i turned on ā€˜Automatically adjust quality’ in the android app.

After todays patch, it works fine now.

I just started getting these same errors…but not just on the mobile IOS app…my family has various types of players, and they are getting the same error when trying to play files external from my network. I am running on TrueNAS 12.0 U4…as soon as I upgrade PMS server newer than 1.22.xxx this starts…been using this for years and years…and this is a new one…

FYI…I tried adjusting the Quality Settings on my IOS device and sure enough…it is playing. Clearly some new setting/feature that is causing some issues…as the version prior to 1.23.xxx works without any issues, and always has…
