New to plex and just want to play movie I rented.
Failure on desktop PC and apple ipad.
Get this error.
Was able to watch free movie on ipad.
Downloaded the media server.
Are you trying to play this through the browser or a Plex app?
I first tried the browser, then the app.
The error message implies there’s a problem with DRM or the HDCP chain.

If you only experience this with a browser, it might be worth checking if it’s specific to this particular browser (some browsers don’t fully support DRM). With the app itself throwing an error too… it’s raising some questions for me…
Can you please confirm which exact browser and version of the Plex app you’re using when you experience this?

Streaming rentals using the native iOS app should work.
You cannot stream rentals from the desktop apps. Browser support is limited, as not all browsers allow protected playback of DRM content.

Are you using any VPN, security tools, blockers… that could be messing with the communication chain?
Can you test starting the stream from outside your home network to verify if it’s something in that setup?
On my pc, but not my ipad and iphone. I don’t think I can test outside my home network.
