I have Plex on my Chromebook from Google Play and purchased a rental, yet whenever I try to play it, a “Error” message keeping popping up telling me to check my connection and try again later. I purchased said rental Jan. 19th and it still won’t play after several attempts. I’m connected to the Wi-fi and it has a strong connection so I know my internet connection is good. What’s the cause of this?!

Can you stream the rental from a different (supported) app?
It could be the Chromebook is blocking some connections used for DRM verification.

From the related support article

Particularly in cases where you run into issues when trying to play a rental in your web browser or mobile device, your first thing to try should be attempting to play the rental back on a different (non-browser) Plex app. For instance, a Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, or smart TV is much more likely to have a compatible DRM & HDCP setup.

So full disclosure, I am currently in college and therefore the only other device I have where I can install the Plex app other that my Chromebook is my Apple iPhone. Will I be able to access rentals through that if I install the app?

The rentals are linked to your account, so you should be able to watch them from all (supported) clients linked to your account. That includes their mobile app on iOS (that being said, I guess you’ll need to activate the mobile apps before being able to stream from those) [edit: just learned that’s not the case for rentals and on-demand titles].
