When I try to play a video which has a DTS audio it says server not available. If i play the video through official plex addon in kodi for android tv it plays just fine. My speakers are connected to my Mi box S directly through a 3.5" audio cable so no passthrough. All other videos with other audio codecs are playing just fine… Is there a fix for that?
How does Kodi, Plex for Kodi, and VLC play the same file normally on the same unit? How does my phone plays it just fine with Plex for Android on my 3.5" headphones?
In my case it does not even start the playback.
You are not getting DTS over a 3.5mm headphone jack, you are getting a downgraded 2 ch stereo stream. As Dirtymacho stated, you need HDMI to optical audio output from the MI Box to your TV or Stereo to get DTS or other hi fidelity sound. Kodi “works” because it downgrades the audio to stereo automatically without telling you. I have a MI Box S and it plays hi channel audio (e.g. 7.1) through by stereo connected via optical with no issues.
Yeah I had this issue too with the Mi Box 3 for a while. Now it’s ok. Plex has tons of bugs with this device. Mine for exemple doesn’t play 4K content. The problem is coming from Plex. Proof is all your other apps (KODI, VLC) are working correctly.
I never said I want to play the DTS as it is, let me rephrase it: is it possible to get the downgraded Audio on regular plex app for Android TV on Mi Box S when the video is with DTS audio track? Because right now when i try to play any video with DTS i get and error that it cant connect to the server and its nothing played. Which for me sound like bug because every other player obviously downgrade the audio and can be played. Also as far as i know Mi Box S has official support for DTS. What exactly is the problem with plex not even be able to start the video at all? Is there a workaround at least for forcing audio to be transcodded on the Plex server end?
With the new player says: it cant connect to the server…
with the old player says: Conversion failed. Transcoder exited due to an error.
Web Player on windows machine: Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.
Not sure what conversion, as its in the local network and its suppose to be played with the original quality. Every other video which doesnt have DTS plays just fine and in the info says Direct Play.
on row 86 is the error: Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.
As far as i understand its a problem with the transcoding… But is it fixable?
Ok that is weird. Plex doesn’t think your client supports it for some reason from what I can tell. Not an expert here or anything. Have you made any setting changes on the Mi Box client app? And can you confirm that you have the Mi Box either connected to your stereo via optical out for audio or HDMI for both audio and video?
On my setup I have HDMI going to the TV for video and optical audio going into my stereo for the sound. The movies and TV shows that I have with hi-fi 7.1 and 5.1 channel sound encoded in DTS are in MKV containers. Not sure if that helps or not.
Mi Box S doesnt have an optical it has 3.5" and hdmi, in my case i have speakers connected to 3.5" as i said before. Every other play the DTS just fine on it. I tried all kind of settings on the plex app for Android TV to test all possible scenarios but it never worked.
Another option is to get a small converter box that strips the audio off of the HDMI and sends the video portion through HDMI to the TV and then the audio through optical to your stereo. If you use the 3.5mm jack, it is for 2ch only.
I dont think its normal to buy hardware to “fix” a bug. Mi box S officially suport DTS, every other player installed play the movie with DTS just fine converting them on the fly. I will more likely just use kodi with plex plugin to play these DTS movies and for the rest I will use the normal plex for Android TV. But its just so stupid and cant understand why its doing it.
Ok, a little bit of an update. It looks its a server side problem. If I install a server on my Windows 10 machine the DTS files plays just fine. But if I use my OMV Docker(linuxserver.io image) Plex server installation i can play videos with DTS. The cpu of the server is Intel G3220T .
Quick check does Mi box s support dolby atmos and HD MA pass through via HDMI when played with local or remote plex server.
Seems it not clear except it support DTS. Also how abt DTS-X as well
Looking for a player fits my sound bard LG recently bought i cant get the atmos via my tv or Amazon fire cube. As the bar says Dolby audio but not saying atmos. Even the fire tv out DTS but not atmos.
But its a server problem. As I said when i install Windows plex server it works fine. And plays the original quality. When I try to play from the OMV Docker PMS install it tries to transcode and it fails, check the log I gave few posts up.
Docker images can’t access all resources on a machine. They are in a container… Try using a full install of Plex on your server. As you state, if you use full Plex on Win10 you are good. This is because you are not in a container there. Not a server problem per se, but an install problem.
