Can't "rewind"

I use an HP Proliant running a Docker container as server and a Shield TV to play and it works great! I hit play and stuff pops right up, it records stuff from my HDHomerun no problem…overall, it works really well!

But I’ve noticed that, especially recently, if I’m watching something and I try to back it up any, it stops…it just buffers…I can’t get it to play again unless I back out of the show and go back in. Then it works perfectly again.

Kinda strange thing…plays great as long as I don’t try to back it up. lol

Anyone else had this happen? Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks!

I’ve noticed an issue with any android players, and if you are transcoding a file. If your movie buffer fills up (the grey bar fills with orange), then attempting to rewind at that point causes an issue. If this is it, I reported this a while back, but got no reply from Plex about a possible fix.

Hmmmm…not sure if the buffer is filling up or not but maybe. That might be it. Would make sense how backing out of the episode and going back in fixes it, though.

Can’t believe something so simple and kinda “expected” not working has still not been fixed. Jeez.

Anywhere I can go to submit another “fix it ticket” or anything?

I don’t think so. It feels pretty ridiculous for something like this to happen. But I think the mainr eason it hasn’t been addressed, is that this shouldn’t happen often. The shield is more than capable of direct-playing anything thrown at it. Only in the case of certain subs (mostly image subs, but some advanced ASS subs can trigger a transcode) would a movie transcode if you play it locally.

Check to see if you are transcoding, and find out WHY you are transcoding. If you use subs, that may be it (the Android player can’t play image subs (PGS/VOBSUB), and supposedly some ASS subs. Check to see if the stream speed is being throttled in your server/client settings, preventing a file from playing at original quality. Check if you are watching DVR recordings, as files produced by them are not that good quality.

I poked around a bit and nope. Doesn’t look like I’m doing any transcoding. It’s set to “pay original quality” or whatever it says. I don’t use any subs, either. So…yea…not sure what’s going on.

There have been an incredible amount of issues on the Shield of late with ff/rewind.

The latest beta seemingly fixed it and I believe that beta was pushed to stable earlier today or yesterday.

If that release is available in the store yet in your location I don’t know…
But just keep checking for updates.

There is indeed an update available. We shall see if it helps. Thanks!

Nope. Doesn’t seem to have made a difference.
